Right now, VW has less health than I do when I am wearing my PvP gear... My Felguard has more health than he does =/ The reason I would use a VW in PvP was because nobody in their right mind would attempt to DPS him down (it took a LONG time) meaning that Soul Link would stay up... He wasn't like the felhunter, where a second or two of concentrated burst from any melee team could kill him. With the recent stamina nerf though, he is only a little less squishy than Felpuppy.
IMO VW was already pretty good for PvP... Most people underestimate Consume Shadow's power vs Rogues and Feral Droods. This change will make him better in Lock VS Rogue duals at the very least, but don't expect to see him in arenas... Felhunter just provides too much utility.
EDIT: Forgot to say: I WOULD use VW in arenas occasionally... If for some reason my partner and the enemy healer dies and I am facing a rogue 1v1, I would Fel-Dom him out and start consuming. This would allow for a quick Shadow Fury on the enemy rogue, which ends the fight pretty quickly. He is also helpful in Rogue-Rogue fights. Because he doesn't use mana for anything important, you can keep him spamming Consume Shadows for quite a while.

It always was, sacrifice won me a lot of fights -.- (pvp server just walking around. not bgs or arena)
but if you can opt for the felhunter then do so. it just is better for affliction

Felhunter is better for all specs... We don't use him because of his DPS, we use him because of his Dispel, and his ability to shut down caster classes.
