LOL @ cat DPS isn't competitive. Do you play the same game we do?
Hey there, HO THERE! I was #1 on the DPS chart on 25-man Emalon the other day, with 4200. I'm in mostly Naxx10 gear, with a few better-than-average pieces (Valourous gloves, Greatness: Agility card). Primal Gore is so very awesome....
Here are my additions to this thread:
Once you get Primal Gore, gem for primarily Agility. We still get a lot of usefulness from Strength (attack power), but with Primal Gore, Agility is king. Enchant for Agility where you can... Stats on chest, Attack power or things like Icewalker on boots, otherwise. I still prefer the +112 AP enchant on my staff over Mongoose... Berserker is also a nice enchant, as long as you NEVER use it for tanking. I disagree that you should gem for hit. Hit is important for casters and dual-wielders. It's not as important for cat DPS. Get the DPS chants for shoulders, head and pants. Your head one is PVP, and your leg armor is the tanking one.
As for your talent build, the above posters are right. Naturalist is a straight damage increase, get it. Drop Brutal Impact (you don't pounce in raids) and Infected Wounds (tanking or PVP talent) and Primal Tenacity (PVP). You really MUST have Primal Gore and Predatory Instincts and King of the Jungle and Shredding ATtacks. I highly recommend Primal Precision as well. You'll probably have to drop points in Feral Aggression too... you shouldn't be using Ferocious Bite often enough anyway.
When you DPS, you need to keep all your buffs, debuffs and bleeds up at all times. For combo-building moves, always mangle first, then Rake. Make sure Mangle and Rake debuffs are up at all times. Shred the rest of the time. For finishing moves, always keep Savage Roar up (you don't need to use 5 points for this... 1-3 points is enough). And always keep a 5pt Rip up on the target... that's where most of your damage will come from. Tiger's Fury as much as possible. I highly recommend you download the "Facemauler" addon. It will pop up a little icon for what your next move should be. It's very useful for a new catDPSer.
And yes, glyph for Shred, Rip and Savage Roar
