Is it just me, or are there very few gear options for a leather wearing caster in Ulduar? In fact,
there is very little leather in general
, and the melee dps leather is also rolled on by rogues. And as resto, I don't want to roll on a lot of the cloth gear cuz it either has +hit or simply doesn't provide enough of an upgrade over my current gear to bother.
I think Blizz did a crappy job of having enough caster leather drops in the loot tables
, and some of them are very purely itemized too.
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45378
is a perfect example....valor emblem gear has way more spell power than these.
This isn't something new., there's always been a lack of good resto/boomkin leather. blizz did a
better
job in wotlk than in BC, but theres so much better cloth out there...
Anyone else agree, or am I just QQing for no reason?
I agree, but i really see no problem in rolling on cloth tbh. /shrug

One of my annoyances is all the hit on the leather melee stuff. I've got a couple 10 man pieces, and they have hit. And then both the badge gloves/belt and the crafted belt/boots have hit too.
I guess it'll work out once I drop some of my naxx gear with hit, but very few pieces of my gear have hit in the first place.

There are 15 leather caster druid drops in ulduar, none of which have +hit and therefore usable by restos or moonkins.
Ulduar caster leather
This list does not include the new tier sets either.
Resto sets
Conqueror's Nightsong Regalia
Valorous Nightsong Regalia
Moonkin sets
Valorous Nightsong Garb
Conqueror's Nightsong Garb
There are
21 cloth caster non-hit, non-tier gear drops in ulduar.
Considering that there are 3 caster cloth wearing classes and only 1 caster leather wearing class, only having 6 more drops in ulduar seems fair to me. You have just be unlucky with drops.

Ulduar caster leather
Comparing them to T7 content :
- the chests are worse than the T7-25 one (they have spi vs T7's haste + crit)
- the gloves are better than those from T7 content, by a noticeable but not big margin. They are also worse than T8 25 and 2 other cloth drops (as well as 2 hard mode drops)
- the 226 helm is a side grade to Headpiece of Reconciliation (+8 spi +2 sp vs +5 int +1 haste, woot)
- the legs are nice in a hit capped situation, but compare them to the Wanton Spellcaster which is the current best in slot for that slot (ie take items with hit in account) and they are largely worse.
- the 226 shoulders are barely better than T7 content and worse than T7 25 when taking hit into account.
- the belts are all worse than Leesh of Heedless Magic
- the 226 bracers are worse than Unsullied Cuffs
The ordering changes a little when considering a solar eclipse rotation, but the result is mostly the same : all those are at best very small upgrades, but most often they are actually downgrades.

To Celdhyrean:
I never spoke about the quality of the gear. If what you say is true and that the gear isnt an upgrade and you are only raiding for the quality drops then why raid?
I was just showing that they are there. I raid because the fights are fun and challenging, something naxx lacked. Sure loot is a bonus, when it happens.
And perhaps drood is correct in saying that wowhead has an incomplete drop list for ulduar. All raiders know the pain of waiting for something to drop.

That's a strawman. When did i say that i was only raiding for the quality of the gear ?
The OP started a discussion about the quality/sparseness of Ulduar gear drops (though he did so on resto and i answered on moonkins since i interpret "caster" as offensive spell users, my bad). You made a point about the number of available items to which i answered saying that most of them were below the current items and thus should not really be taken in consideration.
I do feel justified in ignoring new gear that is worse than the older, on the general principle. it's normal to expect new gear to be better than the old gear, and thus a listing of loots that are of lower quality doesn't qualify as useful.
And the real answer to that would probably be to indicate that in this specific case, i am comparing items that are mostly all iLvL 226 too even if they drop in T7 content. Also i'm speaking only for raiders who have been able to farm the content long enough to get most of those iLvl 226 items. More casual raiders won't have as many 226 items and will thus find perfectly good upgrades in Ulduar.
(i do think that some of them being inferior to lvl 213 items is still wrong though)
I would say that this problem is acknowledged by Blizzard since they changed the iLvl distribution for loot in Ulduar : T7 gave you 226 gear on normal end-bosses (KT and Malygos), T8 content will only give such gear on hard modes. Thus come T9 we will be able to compare normal mode T8 to normal T9 and hard mode T8 to hard mode T9 without interferences.
Regarding the loot list all the items are in the wowhead database, however hard mode items aren't linked to the bosses yet and thus aren't flagged as dropping from Ulduar (some boss pages have been updated with a specific box for hard mode loot though). For moonkins, there will be BiS shoulders (well except if you go for the tier set and it's bonus) and 2nd BiS Gloves for example, which is quite nice.
As for my personal case, i don't care much if there's leather caster gear or not since my guild gives me equal opportunity on cloth items compared to mages/locks/priests. The reason why i'm analyzing loot lists that much is not because i raid only for them but so that i can make the best judgement call on wether or not to pass the loot to someone else first (if a leather up/sidegrade is in my reach, if it's BiS, if i can equip it now or if i have to gather other items, and so on).
Bad luck, i just did all this work yesterday so i have a good idea of the available loot available to moonkins : from my current understanding, the BiS gear will result in all cloth except for 2 set items :/ (the lone bis leather non-set shoulders sadly is on a slot where using T8 seems to be better)
Leaving hard mode items out makes 4T8 desirable, so you get up to 4 leather caster pieces. Woot !
In summary, I do agree with the OP that there is a lack of well itemized caster leather gear in Ulduar. I can understand that lack since such gear would only benefit moonkins and thus be a waste most of the time it drops. I'm not complaining about it. But the fact is still there.

If your resto and rolling on hit gear your rolling on the wrong gear.
I dont even look at cloth/leather for gear I look for better stats (I will pass to priests a lot but only because I'm the only resto druid in my guild who raids on a steady basis so all leather healer gear is pretty much mine) but otherwise roll on cloth like it was leather because if then extra armor will save you from a wipe the your doing something wrong. (most bosses AOE ability's are magic not physical.

It isn't that uncommon for a guild to not allow druids to roll on cloth. Personally i don't roll on cloth either unless its BiS even if its an upgrade, unless no clothy needs it (extremely rare)
