Why do all the northrend shoulders look the same?

Really, ever since I went to northrend at level 68 and started questing I've gone though probably 4 or 5 pairs of shoulder items, and each and everyone has looked almost exactly like the one before it.
Was this just lazyness on Blizzards part?

Not laziness.. you try designing 50 or so shoulders for quest rewards alone. Besides, aren't you glad that everything matches? No bright yellow helmet sticking out from your dark blue robes or black leather or rusted mail etc.
I have to tell you, I would not mind seeing some origional gear, even if it does not "match"

They're all the same because of the feedback blizzard received in the Burning Crusade expansion. People complained about looking like a hobo; none of the gear matched. In typical fashion, blizzard went the complete opposite way and designed one set for each armor type and then used that graphic for everything until you get to 80 with the latest expansion.
Now, instead of getting complaints about nothing matching, they get complaints about a lack of variety. Maybe the next time around they'll have a small handful of different sets for each armor type.

Honestly it doesnt even get much better once you get into early raiding, the same skins are still used with nausiating repitition the only reason it is less noticeable is that it gets mixed up with tier gear. I don't know how many robes with
this
model I've seen, and
these
while there are 8 of them seem to be on half the population of dalaran at any given time on anyone not wearing tier shoulders amongst cloth wearers.
I'd rather have the weirdo mismatch myself, it never really bothered me in bc. Really it was never the MODEL that was an issue only the oddball colors. Just pick a basic tone for the colors for any given armor type and you can go wild on models. As long as they stay away from bright brights in every color of the rainbow nobody is going to give a darn if their chest is a soft yellow and their pants are an equally soft blue color.
