Alright, I figured something out in terms of the NOD32 issue. I did some tinkering with the advanced settings within nod32. For note, I am using version 3.0.672.0. If you turn on the advanced mode, under setup and then click on "Enter entire advanced setup tree..." You should see a lot of options that you can configure on your left. Under the "Web access Protection" Tree you should see "HTTP". If you click on that and disable the HTTP checking you should be able to run the Wowhead client without a hitch.
Again...
1. Under the Setup tab click "Toggle Advanced mode"
2. Click "Yes"
3. Click "Enter entire advanced setup tree..."
4. In the "Web access protection" tree click on "HTTP" (left-hand side)
5. Uncheck "Enable HTTP checking"
6. Click "OK"
7. Close NOD32 dialog box
8. Run Wowhead Client
9. Update
You should be golden now.
I'll do some more looking into a more permanent solution so that you do not have to completely disable HTTP checking.
Just use this myself, thanks alot for the post! After quite a few months wait I was finally able to upload again.
Nice work guys :)

I get a:
"There appears to be a problem uploading your data.
Would you like to learn more about how you may be able to fix this?"
gets to about ~40% and throws this every single time. No errors/alerts/warnings other than what WoWhead's client throws.
OS: Win7 64bit
Version: 1.6.4

I also have the problem that the upload stops with error messages.
The problem is not connected to firewalls or anti virus software, as it also does not work when they are turned off.
Interestingly, the upload always stops after exactly 15 seconds. My guess is that there is a built-in timeout in the wowhead client that stops uploading after 15 seconds. This means that after a patch (when all cached data gets deleted) people with not super-fast internet connections cannot upload the "Shared Data Cache" anymore.
It also means that
if you manually delete the WoW Cache, you *can* upload your characters' data.
Could you give us an update if this timeout can be removed?

Upload failed: Data transfer timeout.
I've had this same issue for months now. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Wowhead client. I've even since formatted my PC (unrelated issue) and reinstalled WoW and this client. Still can't upload. I get this same issue each time. Unfortunately, because I'm still accumulating data in the interim, my data file is getting larger and larger. Right now it's nearly 2 MB of data to upload. I never have problems getting updates for the client, only uploading information.
If there is an internal timer which cancels the download after a certain number of seconds, please give us an option to change that timeout manually. Being able to change that to 1 minute would probably fix this issue for a lot of us. If, indeed, that is the problem.
I don't have firewall software at the moment, and I disabled Windows Firewall to see if that was the issue. I even tried unchecking "upload character data" to see if that would help. So far, nothing is working.
Is there a specific port that the client tries to use to upload data? I can always open up that port on the router's internal firewall if necessary. I never used to have any problems uploading data and one day this started and it's never worked since. :(

You can use a work-around to still upload all your data.
First, rename all files in your WoW's cache directory so the Wowhead looter does not recognize them anymore. You can now upload your charaters' data.
Now, start with the smallest cache file and restore its name, and upload its content with the Wowhead looter. Continue this with all cache files until you get to the point where a single file is already too large to upload.
Delete all cache files that cannot be uploaded that way (will not negatively affect WoW).
Now, the important part is to upload very frequently so that the data and cache files don't get so big again that you cannot upload them any more.
This is still a bug on Wowhead's part and should be fixed, but at least you can upload your data like that.

Let's try and consolidate this into a smaller number of threads. I'm going to lock this one—can you post your workaround
here
