Well to be fair, Captain Planet was full of stereotypes...since you know, that's why it was created, since someone thought it would be a good idea to make a superhero like that.
Beyond that; I'd let my kids watch it, just to see how ridiculously side splittingly funny it was. If I want them to see 'deep' shows, I'll pop in Rescue Rangers and Duck Tales for that age range and move on to things like Animanics, Pinky and the Brain, Tiny Toons when they are in that range then onto things like Daria and the DCAU after that.

Ahh Daria, that show always amused me.

Daria and MTV's Downtown, two of my favorite shows from when I was younger, with Undergrads rounding it out....then MTV went to $%^& and didn't produce anything good anymore.

My favorite show when I was younger was probably Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Closely tied with Boy Meets World and Charmed.

Lol, TGIF eh? Well, except for Charmed, which went to pot after they introduced Billy.
But I remember watching Daria and Downtown on the late night YTV block when I was 12 or so.

Now I love Billy (aka Penny) in Big Bang Theory! lol
And yes, TGIF is something they should really bring back... loved almost every show ever in that 2-hour block.

Eh, I find her incredibly irritating; I mean I know in a show with 'smart' people there has to be someone of normal intelligence, but did they really have to go with the 'dur' blonde. Though, I'm not a huge fan of the show either; Sheldon is annoying as sin, Howard get's on my nerves, I want to punch out Leonard, and the only character I semi-like is Raj, but he get's little to no screen time compared to the others, unless a girl is around for him to go silent about or get drunk over.
What's truly amusing is I liked Leonard as David from Roseanne, which is the reason why I started watching the show in the first place, but now it just makes me irritable.

Oh I may cry. You don't like the show? I <3 the show! <3 <3 <3!
And I take it all back,
Roseanne
is my favorite sitcom of all time. It was as close to a typical family as you could get, until they won the lottery.
And BBT has had David, Darlene & Jackie from Roseanne. In addition, Stephen Hawking, Leonard Nimoy, Levar Burton among others. I just love it.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##sas148##DELIM##

Oh I know there were lots of Roseanne people who show up on the BBT; but still can't stand it lol.
As for Roseanne; depends on how you view the last episode, where it may be that everything that happened in the final season was really just something Roseanne was writing after the death of Dan.

To be fair, I don't recall a lot regarding the end of the show. Perhaps that's something I should go back and watch here someday.

Heh, you should; looking at the last season with that view point changes some things.

Why not let children watch these things, have a conversation about it, and allow them to make their own decisions? I've never understood this concept of isolating children from anything we don't agree with. I for one will ensure my children get to see a great deal of perspectives so that they are well rounded individuals who can make their own opinions and choices regarding their religious beliefs or political leanings or anything else of that nature. Whenever possible that's what I plan to do. :)
Would a kids show about a bunch of Christians saving the world from evil abortion doctors while having to put up with a stereotypical violent Muslim be beneficial, as long as there was an open conversation about their thoughts afterward?
I'm all for teaching my kids about environmentalism. I'm all for teaching my kids about abortion. I'm all for teaching my kids about Islam. I'm all for teaching my kids about the history of violence in religion. However, to make a show with obvious biases targeted at kids isn't appropriate, in my book. It isn't educational. It's indoctrinating. It isn't acceptable, even with the double standards applied.
However, when I was a kid I liked captain planet because I wanted a ring that could do magic stuff.

There is bias all over the world in everything. The key is showing your children how those biases are used or expressed so that they can acknowledge and analyze it appropriately when confronted with it in their day-to-day lives.
My personal position with my children though would be not to take a position on the matter specifically, but to show them the various positions shared by various groups; thereby allowing them to make their own decisions. I would, however, express my view if they should happen to ask.

That sounds great. Do you have kids?

I don't have kids that are mine biologically, no. I do however have some living with me that I take care of.
