I just hit 30 but I think the the spec is still good (nothing negative happened really in the 3.2 patch as far as I have noticed).
In patch 3.2 there were no changes to Elemental shamans specifically. If anything shamans got an overall buff with the new Call of the Elements, increased base HP (by very little but still), increased range of chain lighting jumps, and increase range of shock spells from 20 to 25 yrds.
So elemental just got a little better!
ya that ^^ lol, I was just to lazy to double check the patch notes, I love that call of the elements spell, and as a magic user I also love that
Totemic Recall
ability which removes whatever totems that are still out and gives you 25% of the mana to bring them out back to you :)

I will update the guide whenever I'm not lazy about the new totem functions and remove the totem drop macro. LAZINESS FTW!
UPDATE FASTER :P
Fine Gawd! Done! Gawd!
Would the PvP leveling spec here still be viable?
I just checked to see if the linked guides were fudged up by any wowhead changes. Looks fine.

Pretty sure that the increased range on shock spells was added before 3.2 came out but i could be wrong. Also I don't recall seeing any notes on Chain Lighting's bounce range being increased. Chain Heal however got it's ranged boosted.
Shamans have always had Totemic Recall. It just has a cool looking icon now and doesn't require an action bar slot.

thanks for commenting... guides help make things easier to understand etc, even if a certain tree is "easy" info on things helps.

(PvP) The Blessed Hammer of Grace - 250 Stone Keeper's Shard
is it bad if i buy

instead of

for a elemental shammy?
Naw it might even be the better choice since heirlooms stay updated with your level. You may get a bigger benefit in using the ghetto headmaster's charge than the mace + shield. Wowhead doesn't show the correct stats but the staff has higher sta, int, and crit I think. Mace doesn't even have crit.
When I decided to attempt to level my shaman again (for the umpteenth time) my spec was, well to put it frankly, just plain bad! I've had him since pre-BC and never managed to break him out of the 20 bracket....'what am I doing wrong?' Well, apparently everything I was doing was wrong. (/facepalm)
I hit 70 last night, now I'm in Northrend. It's only taken me the better part of 4 years to figure out how to play a shaman. What can I say...I'm a slow learner...and this guide has become my ele shaman bible! Thank you CanadianSniper and the rest of you that contributed for helping me get a clue!
I've done a fair amount of pvp since the 30 bracket and want to make a contribution of my own to the to my fellow (noob) ele shamans....
Once you hit the level 50 bracket start doing AV and grind yourself some honor for later on. Most likely your gear isn't going to be the best, and generally you'll be ineffective against the the higher level players and seasoned pvp'ers. SO, what do you do? You become Healer!
I've found that being an Ele-healer in the larger battlegrounds is a very effective way to crank up your honor and kills. Stack on the stam, int, spell power and anything that gives you mana regen and spam chain heal like it's going out of style! Yeah, you'll die a lot and run out of mana a lot, but for every time you get killed you'll get credit for all the kills of those you've kept alive. (I'm currently sitting at about 7K honorable kills and I don't pvp that often.)
At 50, because of the lack of +hit and spell penetration (and the resistances of the higher level players), combat just becomes more of a frustration because you'll miss or get resisted far too often to make your dps that effective. Plus, there are rarely any others that want to heal in bgs and it'll be good place to practice your healing. Which, sooner or later, you'll end up having to do, like it or not. Once you put a few more levels on you'll be a bit more effective when it comes to the actual combat.
Rock on. AV has accounted for 50% of my experience gained since lvl 51. Great way to level assuming your BG raid doesn't suck at capping stuff :D

Sniper, Just want to say thanks for the guide. For someone who did not have a whole lot of knowledge about the Shaman class, your guide is a good start. I look forward to your thoughts on other suggestions with Shaman and the other classes.
Thanks :) This guide is most likely gonna receive a hefty update when the next patch comes out, assuming fire nova totem is changed, etc.
Sadly I don't even play as elemental anymore XD Currently raiding as Resto and doing arenas as Enhance. One day I'll go back to Elemental. I love that spec.

ty for your feedback. I would suggest adding LB at the beginning since FS is an instant and that free LB cast time on the mob you're targetting counts for nice dps. LB -> FS -> LvB -> LB until mob dies if not already dead.

So what does one do to keep the green bar on par with the blue bar?
Kill the mobs before they kill you. If you really need to heal in a pull, use TS and cast LHW a bunch. If this is an issue then I would suggest you get the glyph of stoneclaw. Imho it's more efficient to kill the mobs then heal if you require healing.

Wearing cloth gear as a Shaman is a non-issue outside of PvP. Even if you didn't have a shield to make up the marginal difference, the tiny amount of extra damage that you take in combat while soloing hardly matters.
But, of course, you do have a shield and mobs won't be pummeling you most of the time anyway. Cloth is fine. Leather and mail are obviously better, but it hardly matters.
Also, mana is a non-issue with Water Shield. All in all Elemental is a fine tree for leveling.
Is it faster than Enhancement? I think they are so close that they should be called equal*. Variables like gear will affect your leveling speed more than spec.
As for the argument (from the OP) that Elemental wins because of AoE grinding abilities, I don't see AoE grinding as part of any leveling strategy - assuming that strategy is focused on leveling as fast as possible. The way to do that is stack and chain quests all the way to 80, and only once in a while will AoE clearing be useful (never required) to accomplish that.
*I leveled Elemental before Water Shield, and at that time it was only slightly behind Enhancement in the hands of a competent player, due to occasionally having to drink. Now with Water Shield I can't imagine there's much difference between the two.

I've only found one inconvenience: it's really hard to take down elites. With enhance, shamanistic rage and the puppies make most elite fights feel like walks in the park, but with ele it is much much trickier. You got to group up to kill those elites so you can get the nice rewards and achievements. Not to say solo'ing elites is impossible as ele, but it's very difficult and challenging. It's really a minor thing, but it does itch a bit.
This is somewhat true but if the elite attacks with melee and is snare or rootable then you could kite it all day with talented earthbind totem and/or frost shocks. If the elite is a caster then be sure to interrupt, heal, and drop grounding totem accordingly. That's what I did for MOST group quests in outlands and northrend.
Late reply is late but at least I replied :)
