Have a 64 pally and the quests there give around 10k for normal hellfire quests to around 15k regular Blade's edge quests. Dungeon quests for hellfire give 20k xp Zangarmarsh/Tekkorar dungeon quests round 22-25k. Idk about raids or tempest keep dungeons so decide for yourself from that information. Let me know if this post was helpful. :)

Actually, you should stay prot and do quests.
More survivability/Pretty fun with the big pulls for quest mobs.
And if you get bored of quests, theres usually big camps of mobs So if you're fully rested, might try a couple big pulls while rested :P
Thats how i did outlands, and it was really fun!

I'm going thru Outlands now with my alt Paladin. I'm spec'ed ret and having no issues at all with any quests, even the group ones. Even with little to no rested, I flew through 58-64 in no time and the quests stacking is as good as ever. Just get the gear from the quests along the way and you should have no issues. I switched to a 2H sword that I had lower skill in and still took things down in no time. I honestly think I could level quickly with a fishing rod.

The
fastest way to level as a paladin is AoE grinding as prot.
Completely ignore quests and just grind mobs.
If you're looking for locations check out
this guide
(self promotion).
Questing is fast as well but with the amount of travelling involved it is not nearly as fast as grinding.
P.S. I didnt say grinding was the funniest or easiest way, but there is NO faster way.

Ok let's assume you do are right.
Questing is faster than grinding.
Then answer these questions for me:
The same style of leveling was used both by the first level 70 when BC was released and the first level 80 when WotLK was released. What was the style of leveling?
How many hours per level can you average while questing and while grinding? Lets say in WotLK since in vanilla it changes greatly just by a 5 level difference.
How much time do you spend NOT earning exp while questing/grinding?
Lets start out with those and see just what kind of answers you could come up with.
P.S. Code was "
com1x
" ironic dont you think?
Edit:
Sure i am proud of my guide. But ask yourself why do you think there is an AoE grinding guide for prot and no quest grinding guide for ret?
Edit:
On the point of the first people getting to level 70 and 80 i guess they would have to be really retarded as you suggest. But i assume with that level of retardation they probably had someone else playing their characters because they weren't capable to on their own. But then again wouldn't the ones playing for them be even more retarded then?

Level 70-80 in 30-35 hours questing and i'll have this argument with you.
The majority of the wow community knows and acknowledges AoE grinding as
THE
fastest way to level.
If you found it so incredibly slow my bet is you found it boring and thus was overestimating the time it took you. Or you were simply doing it poorly.
I've got a community to back me up on my claims what do you have besides calling people retards and false claims.
Biggest load of BS today:
I spend NOT time not earning exp while questing,
So i guess you're NEVER out of combat during your questing then..........
And yes when AoE grinding you spend HOURS not going out of combat.
Sure quest exp has been bumped. And the amount of exp required to level has been reduced.
And the amount of traffic accidents over the last few years have decreased and the likelyhood of surviving said accident increased. That doesnt mean traffic accidents are good now does it?
Sure there are lots of quest guides. I can agree with you on that. But you dont need guides for AoE grinding more than knowing were to go.
My guide which was actually not intended for beginner use was modified for it since an experienced player wouldn't need more than the locations. And rarely even that.
Edit:
The first level 80 didn't have a pocket healer though he had a mage come portal him to the trainer every level and some friends to summon him back.
Which you dont need as prot since you only need to train once from 70-80 and that's at 76.

"I also had to optimize my downtimes and decided to level with a healer out of party, Pavelomm was nice enough to spend the last 27 hours healing me without taking any XP and he obviously played a huge role in the process."
^^ pocket healer
My bad there from what i had heard he was only using haunt for healing.
And I didn't call anyone names. You're really defensive about this, so I understand the temptation to make things up, but try and resist.
More recently, I had been trying to go prot, but it is significantly slower. I know how to AoE, have been doing it a long time, but it's just slower. I went prot from 60-62 before I gave up, and went back to ret, tried it again at 70 and didn't even finish the level because it was that dramatically slower. I'm prot now, and while AoE is part of my levellign process at 76, I don't "just ignore quests",
I'd have to be retarded to.
Sure you're not pointing fingers but anyone gets the point.
I'm sorry if you think there is a ton of downtime levelling as ret. I don't really count the 3 seconds between mobs as downtime.
Say you kill 1000 mobs that's 3000 seconds or 50 minutes.
Killing 1000 mobs doesnt take long at all even when questing.
3 Seconds for that matter is ridicoulus i guess you never ever stop to drink or heal then?
And if you're having 3 second downtime between mobs either you're moving when killing the mobs which isn't very effective now is it?
Or you're moving so incredibly slowly between quests so what you're doing is practically mob grinding.
And from your guide: "Bring empty bags and
lots of water
. " I'm interested in how you manage to drink when you don't leave combat for HOURS.
As i said i had to adapt my guide in order to make it more beginner friendly.
In the early levels 30-50 you stop to drink when AoE grinding.
If done properly you'll notice on your own when you dont need to stop to drink and can just keep going on your own.
Edit:
Most people will level faster questing because of the lack of dedication, patience and persistancy required to AoE grind effectively.
It is also more monotonous AoE grinding which makes most people do it ineffectively.
But if both methods are done properly AoE grinding will always outshine questing.

Love the fact that the last word is so important to some people, just let it go dude! I for one can't say definitavely which is faster, imo do whichever you like better, if one bores you out of your mind (as questing does for me), then do the other. Neither of them is particularly slow, if AoE grinding does prove to be like 10% or more faster in terms of playing time then i'd say it trumps it for sure, imo it depends on the player tho'. As svirve points out it can be a rather monotonous way to level, if you get bored fast then this definately isn't the way for you.

I actually do both
I do get bored doing grinding then switch to questing. When I am bored with that I switch back to grinding.
2 months ago (I've only been playing since Feb) I tend to "drink" but now I dont have to - the "instant" flash of light comes in handy for me. Instead of me sitting down to heal and get mana, I kill mobs so I can do the instant heal and the mana heal (sorry i do not know the spell names or the buff).
What I do is get all the quest available and do them all one after the other then turn in quest afterwards.
I think both have advantages.
I tend to lean more though on grinding (personal preference) - since I read svirve's guide.
In the end, its just personal preference.
