This is illogical.
The enchanter shards the blues/epics because they are worth more than vendor fodder.
All it is, is the enchanter helping the group get more money/usefulness out of the BOP's that nobody would use.
To say you get to keep them all is silly, your just de'ing as a service to the other members of the party, you are simply helping them to get slightly more valuable loot. Nothing more, nothing less. Its their loot, they won the roll, you are just being a nice person and giving them something much more valuable. If you dont want to help, or you want to charge for this server, go ahead.
This discussion seems almost like half the participants have never run an instance before and are shooting in the dark, its a rather commonplace commonsense rule.

This discussion has no end...there is enough evidence that both sides are correct.

Man... 12 pages and counting. I usually take the time to read the whole thread but I didn't get past page five because my eyes was starting to hurt.
The first thing that came to my mind when reading the thread was the fabled
Pristine Hide of the Beast
from back in the day. The same discussion arose that the dude skinning The Beast should have first dibs since without him there'd be no hide to begin with. But most people (myself included) pressed the fact that if the other nine people running the place wasn't there he'd have no boss to skin to begin with. And since the item was just as useful to the others on the quest it's plain greedy.
Seems to be alot of focus on vendoring/AH-ing stuff, I can't speak for everyone, but personally I stack the shards I get for future enchants in my bank. Thus giving back to the enchanting community down the line, so to speak.
There's also the point raised somewhere along the line that you get disenchanting for free along with enchanting. I assumed most enchanters had some kind of crafting profession as the second choice giving them crafted items they can farm mats for solo and then craft and disenchant to level the skill? Naturally some might go with some other profession, but that's a bit like complaining about the price of leather in the AH if you're a leatherworker and don't have skinning in my opinion. You have the option to farm most if not everything you need solo, but went another route and had to solve it some other way which may not be the easiest or cheapest one.
Granted leather is alot cheaper, but as it has also been mentioned, the more shards there is around, the lower the price at the AH will be. Basic economics, so not sharding based on the possibility of the shard going to someone else than yourself not only hurts you in the end, it'll come off as greedy to most involved as well, as this thread is bound to have shown by now even without my wall of text. =)

It's pretty simple.
A greedy enchanter will lie about being an enchanter, greed, DE it himself, and go about his business. Overall, this doesn't bother me because of course it is their right, but I also find it underhanded.
An enchanter who wants to be fair and help his fellow player will offer his DEing services to help make the most out of a run. I would much rather roll on some shards than go home empty handed. I would rather make 30g than 9g. Anyone would.

12 pages of this because the OP can't get over the semantics of rolling before or after the item is DE'd. What exactly is wrong with /roll on all the items that nobody is need rolling, then awarding the shards afterward?
EDIT:
Gratz to
raistlin212
for saying the same thing on the previous page. :P

Hopefully my post will get read -.-,
But I think we should make a standard marco:
"Please Vote:
1 = If gear is useless to everybody then I'll DE and
we Roll for shard
.
2 = If gear is useless may I please have shard.
or
2=If the gear is useless may I please have the shard. I am XX/450."
And best 3/5,13/25, 21/40 (enchanters do not vote).
If it is a tie then its automaticly #1.
Problem: People would
lie
about their enchant level.
Fix: Make enchanting level known through the "Inpect option"

This "if no one needs it then everybody greed it, and if the enchanter wins he can do what he wants with it" idea is, in my opinion, a pretty poor idea.
Your opinions in this matter are irrelevant.
All the enchanter has to do is refuse to D/E. or not make it known that they are an enchanter.
