So, this upcoming summer I have a chance to level in a group of 5 doing RaF. My bro and 3 of my friends and I are all playing, but I'm rather curious what the community thinks would be a solid, stable, well-rounded group of 5 players.
Thanks,
Hoffster

3 DPS, 1 Healer, 1 Tank. One of those DPS being a hybrid capable of picking up healing and/or tanking would be good also.
Any classes that fill those roles should work perfectly. At least, thats just my personal idea of the perfect party.

We've come up with a few tentative ideas for the party.
Me - Prot War
My Bro - Resto Drood
Friend 1 - Ele Sham
Friend 2 - Frost Mage/Fury War
Friend 3 - Marks Hunter
I'm just looking at possibilities right now.
And yes, we were looking at rolling an all druid group ;)

The group I'm in is as follows
Pally (prot/holy)
Pally (holy/retri)
Warlock (dest/afflic)
Druid (Balanced/Feral Tank)
Shammy (elemental/Resto)
Main spec list 1st, off spec list 2nd. It works really well and we can swap out roles as tank or healer gets bored.
For low level instance leveling Id advise not to take same armor class, but you are going to run the same instances a few times so its probably not that big a deal, but being different armor class does make it easier to gear as well once level 80
For buffs the following party
Priest (holy/shadow)
Pally (Prot)
Druid (balanced/resto)
Shammy (elemental/resto)
Mage for intel buff.
Loads of buffs and with 2 hybrid dps classes you will have enough backup in O sh!t heal situations.

mages are good don't get us wrong but in optimizing a group mages aren't the first to come to mind
they only have 1 group/raid buff (Arcane Intellect) which is less than say a pally/shaman and useless to some classes and raid buffs are the most noticeable benefit of a class' presence
the combination of less raid buffs than a pally/shaman and sometimes useless buff tends to drop them down a bit on the list of must have classes but that's strictly looking at the most noticeable benefit from them
any-who...
so far it seems unanimous that a pally, shaman, and druid are must haves leaving 2 spots open and no clothies
would say a priest would bring the most with bubble, fort, spirit (if the druid or priest are heals), misery (if the priest is shadow and the druid isn't balance) leaving 1 spot for just about anything
to best fill the 5th spot it would largely rely on what specs the rest of the group are as a boomkin's moonkin aura/earth and moon/imp FF, elem shaman's wrath of air totem, and priest's spirit/misery would be near useless to a physical dps
while at the same time a druid's lotp, shaman's strength of earth/windfury totem would be useless to a caster
it's good for a group to compliment itself, +13% spell damage doesn't compliment melee just as 20% melee haste doesn't compliment casters
in the end you won't require such min/maxing for 5 friends to be able to run a group together successfully and should play for preference above all else
so long as one person's preference is heals and another is tanking =)
this is where a mage
could
come in most likely if you choose to go with a heavy caster group
