Oh and just to let you know, I've only used this site 3 or 4 times and this is my first post, so expect to see a lot more suggestions in the future as I'm browsing through the site ;-)
Bugs & IssuessAccounts- Signature limit increased to 150, however the JS checkup is unchanged (only accepting 100).
Posting- Switching Edit/Preview mode prevents you from using the undo/redo keys when editing. (alt + z / y)
- Captcha doesn't load before focusing the textarea - on a basic topc/reply this is okay since you have to type something (duh), but when you get an error like "The code you entered is invalid. Please try again." the catcha disappears and you must focus your textarea again (tho not everyone knows that the captcha loads upon textarea:onFocus)
- Having content textarea focused while switching to Preview mode disables your text marker in other fields on the page until you switch back to Edit mode (Firefox).
- Sub-list creates an extra index (See "New Boards" below for an example).
- Making a new line within a list (ul) creates a new index for this line when not using the list tag. Doing this takes away the possibility to indent your lines.
SuggestionsAccount- Extended Profile: Name, Sex, Age, Country, City, Hobbies/Interests, Website...
- Option to show/hide all the above information including email.
- Option to switch between wysiwyg/plain editors when posting.
- Premium account to support the costs of the site - Does not give you any benefits except from no advertisements!
- Feature to let your reputation have an effect on how often you need to use captcha:
Neutral = Every post
Friendly = Every Login
Honored = No Captcha when posting. - Post listing (next to Comments, Screenshots and Articles) and maybe a couple of statistics; Posts per Day, Most Active in <forum>...
- User comments (like a guestbook, but we don't like that word, do we?) for contacting eachother or to give regular comments about a user and his/her contribution to Wowhead, since we have no internal message features.
- Notification by Email on diff. events: New Reply to your topics/comments - Or when a moderator/admin replies etc...
- Private Messaging - zomg, now I can spam Miyari somewhere else than just IRC !! (Can also be used by Wowhead for introduction PMs, notifications etc...)
Mapping- Option to add strings to your notes.
- Option to add lines between your notes for path drawings.
Tools- Arena Calculation - Much similar to the new calculator at wowarmory.com - afterall we don't want to waste our time on the heavy loaded wowarmory.com ;-)
- Reputation Calculation - Based on Wowwiki data you should be able to create one (I did at least).
- Item Comparing - A page with an option to list several search results.
- Profession Checklists - A tool which lets you check up on which recipes and patterns you are missing.
Posting- A simple wysiwyg editor.
- A JS menu giving you all formatting tags for plain text formatting (non-wysiwyg)
- Form Field indexing for tabbing between fields.
- A live character count, displaying characters used - either by #id or <input>.
- Smiliey Pictures - who doesn't like smilies? (Just the usual faces :-)
- New captcha using item names as keywords instead of mixed letters and numbers. (Only 1 word of the items name e.g. Swift, Mug, Hero, Fallen...)
- New tags: - - - - (Screenshot should return a thumbnail and the item tag should return the name as a quality-colored link having the usual tooltip on it).
- New icons for sub-lists (listsublist
Forums- RSS Feeds for all categories.
- Topic Icons: Locked (exists), Stickied (exists), New, Read, Hot...
- JS confirmation when clicking on external links.
- Animated Avatars for forum moderators/admins.
- New Boards:
- Wowhead - Site Bugs/Suggestions, Wowhead Client...
- Raids & Dungeons - PvE Discussion
- Player vs Player - PvP Discussion
- And WAY more, but for now I'll just stay with the above...
I believe I had about 20 more suggestions and a couple of bugs in mind,
but while creating this topic, I have forgotten most of them. :-(
I'll add more whenever I get to think of them again.
========================================================================

This has

addressed. We appreciate the suggestion, but we feel this may be counter-productive to the purpose of Wowhead reputation, which is simply a measurement of your contribution and not meant to provide users with any sort of reward.

Ouch - with big topics comes big replies.
And with big replies comes even bigger replies.
And with even bigger repli.... Okay, Okay - I think you get me now. :-)

Not quite following you.
"There are no rewards or privileges that come with increased reputation
at this time." is what I get from reading the Reputation FAQ.
I can tell you that we're working on several new forums. When we roll them out all depends on when Sko gets them finished up and through testing. Personally, I'd like the animated avatars for mods/admin, but that seems like it'd be both low on the priority list, and a bit of a ripoff from Blizzard.
I'm sure - if designed proberly - it can't be a bigger issue than plugging a couple of strings on the database, but for that I can not know since I have absolutely no clue about how Wowhead is designed back-end. :-)
The suggestion about animated avatars is indeed a ripoff from the Blizzard Forums and I only addressed this suggestion because of this. Otherwise I wouldn't have thought of the idea myself, heh.
Smilies were discussed a while ago in the General forum, and I think that the general consensus among users was something like, "why?"
I have read numerous forums and articles discussing the matter of smileys on a forum - whether to use them or not.
Main reason not to use them was the "fact", that smileys pulls the focus away from the text or the content for that matter, but I believe, if you can't isolate the content from "disturbing" smileys, you have to got issues with lack of concentration. I aint suggesting animated pictures upon every and each letter, but simply small pictures supplying emotical messages to the reader.
Polls are indicating it is easier to understand a message being assisted by visual effects.
It is a lot easier to understand the actual message of a post (either sarcastic, ironic or any other...), if you got a visual view of the matter.
Of course there is the regular smileys created with plain simple text, but those do not work as well as with pictures since the brain isn't able to seperate 'em from the rest of the text as easy as with pictures. There's a lot of examples of forums and websites using smileys in such a bad way that it ruins the site/community - and the other way around you barely find any of. However it
is possible to create a great atmosphere importing smiley pictures, so this shouldn't be as a valid reason not to.
My personal oppenion on this, is that there's a lot of other things to do on Wowhead.com, which have an extreme higher prio. as of now, however adding a smiley feature in the *cough* near *cough* future wouldn't bother me at all - and if it
should bother someone - maybe an idea of having settings to switch smileys off would be an easy solution. :-) It is afterall just a replacement of text to pictures. Everyone can do that *giggle*
There's currently a profile tool in the works. Ideally, I'd like to see it incorporate a lot of the features you bring up (recipes, rep, etc). But thats in an ideal world. Just remember that, like the forums, the profiler will no doubt grow and expand. Unfortunately, the only problem I can find would be the recipes, since that information can't be found from the Armory, it would require you to either A) download a mod, which will in essence poke around your professions, and from there you can upload the information. Or B) have you check off recipes manually. Which one would you prefer? I'm not saying that it would be built in right from the get-go (or even if it gets built in, period). But I would like an opinion.
It's rather 'simple' since Wowhead.com is already using a client for data gathering and this can be used for character gathering as well (characters in the profiles anyone?), and of course making sure that the user knows about the gathering (maybe an entire section of the profile assigned for characters, guilds, craftings etc..?).
We've also been poking Sko quite a bit to see about working in a PM system, but whether or not he has plans to get to it are another story. But I can tell ya that if it makes it in, that you won't be the only one spamming Miyari with PM's (ROMG r u relly a GURL???!!!1). : P
Didn't know she was a female - although the "salad" she had today kinda made me wonder when we spoke together on
#Wowhead :-)
Anywho, in short, you bring a lot of ideas to the table. I'll bring the thread to Sko's attention and see what he says. Worst comes to worst, it'll be a "ololol rofl u n00b rayford u no i dont do nething!!!1! lolololoo!!" : P
Good Luck :-)
Oh and btw, it seems like you cannot create links with urls looking like irc://irc.freenode.net/#wowhead altho I'm sure everything that's stated after url= should be a forced url, no?

I revised that post:

As for the document originally linked, the relevant part was below the part you quoted me. :)
Essentially, by providing some sort of tangible reward for reputation, we encourage users to "grind" for it. This is not the intent of Wowhead reputation. It's not meant to provoke action from users, but simply to help measure the sum of your past actions.
