Reckoning sucks for threat generation. Its a survival talent.

There is no dodge or parry cap.
Reckoning is still crap, but go ahead and put the 3 filler talents for the protection tree in it if you want. I prefer a shorter CD on HoJ though.
Crusade > SotP + you get utility talents like Vindication (= demo shout) and PoJ (personal flavour, go ahead and skip this one)
Pure dodge gems are kinda fail, get some more HP.
Dodge>Parry.
Yes, there are dodge and parry hard caps. It's why dodge is less affected by diminishing returns than parry is at the same level.
Otherwise, 99% correct. There's probably a tankadin or two out there somewhere who's imbalanced himself enough toward dodge that parry would be better, but not too many of them.
I plan on swapping the dodge gems for agil/stam gems as soon as I get the pattern
No. Nonononono. No agility in your gems. Very, very bad choice. That's for rogues, feral druids, and hunters.

Actually, I've been seeing favorable responses to Agility Gems instead of Dodge gems on the EJ forums.
Agility gives about 80% of the avoidance value of the same amount of dodge rating, but it also gives added armor (mitigation) and threat.
It is not always the best choice, but it's not a horrible one either.

Looking at the recent posts in the EJ forums, I'm seeing mixed responses to the idea.
I'm against on the grounds that it is my position that as a tank you should be min/maxing more than any other class to the encounter at hand. Agility is never the stat of choice.
If I want avoidance, I want the most efficient avoidance stats - not one that gives me a mixture of avoidance and threat - so I'll want defense and dodge in most cases, and parry in the rest. Agility is inferior in all circumstances.
If I want mitigation, I want the most efficient mitigation stats. Given as mitigation fights tend to be against softly hitting mobs, that means BV, then armor. Agility is laughable by comparison.
If I want threat, again, Agility is very far down the list of stats that will give it to me.

As someone said on EJ, you're probably only using one gem to activate meta anyhow, so the difference is not permeating all gemming decisions.

well I am just an 80 with the std eq...NOTHING that great. the typical 535 def and hoping to get better LOL
anyway I was just getting used to tanking pre 3.2 so now I respec to what? seal and judge?

JemiS
Not sure what you're asking, Etrin.
Almost nothing changed for prot in 3.2, other than a stronger seal (veng) and a few new options (SoR and SoC.
Or are you asking about Ret spec in a Prot thread?
Post by
etrin
no I was talking about a couple of things... sorry I could only think that respec and redo eq.
We run the same build and spec as 3.1?
I knew I was going to have to respec in ret so while I was there I would respec and new glyphs if needed.

No real reason to respec Prot, imo.

Not to mention, with gemming for Agi instead of Dodge kings will increase our dodge rating as well.

You need Kings for it to be 80% of the value of dodge with regard to avoidance. Otherwise, it's much worse

Kings is only a 10% increase, meaning that it's around 72-73% the value of dodge without kings.
Worse, not 'much' worse.
But yes, it is not, as Sokur mentioned any better with kings, kings is effectively the baseline.

I don't think i would ever gem for agility unless something drastically change.
I don't see any agility on any prot gear. I guess thats a clue? It might not be much worse, but as a matter of fact, its IS worse.
