5/10/25 man encounters intrigues me.
I think the Ring of Blood-esque approach is what Blizzard will be aiming for here, with each level of difficulty comes another boss? 1 in 5 man, 2 in 10, 3 in 25? And respectively, more loot? I would also assume it won't be as tough as Ulduar, that it will be more like VoA, easily puggable.

The first thing I thought of when I read the comment about the new battleground was the keep battles in Warhammer Online, which isn't far off the mechanics of WG or SotA.
In Warhammer, you fight for various control points that will give you some kind of bonus, or territory control. Once you fight your way into the keep there's assorted "officer" npc's of the opposing faction that you have to defeat, along with any players in there, working your way up to the boss's room, defeating him to take over the keep. I'm sure the mechanics would work differently in WoW, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a similar system put in. For the short time that I played War, that was pretty much the most fun part of the game.
I would hope the coliseum would be more than an expanded version of the ring of blood. There's already been one Northrend version of that done, with the Amphitheater of Anguish in Zul'Drak. A raid sized version of that might be a bit interesting, but it's still and old concept.
