Hey guys, basically the title says it all. I was thinking about dropping my inscription (which ive had for a while now) because I don't really use it. I actually couldn't tell you when the last time I made a glyph to sell on the AH because i have many competitors on my server who basically just rule the market and every time I post, it will get undercut in minutes. I was thinking about dropping it for alchemy because, from what I have heard, they can also make good money off of transmutes and such. So what should I do?

Inscription suffers from a lack of return buyers, that's for sure. Instead of the auction house, try asking in trade channel every now and then. Your chances are better.
The trouble with Inscription as a money maker, specifically, is that it requires people to either make alts or replace gear that you can Inscribe, and the former is better timed with a new Expansion, and the latter 1-4 full weeks after the Expansion launches. You might get a bump on content patches, with people buying new Valor gear, but your days of providing Glyphs are pretty much over.
Alchemy can make a great deal of gold because it provides consumable items. Keep in mind, however, while some potions at skill 525+ might sell in the auction house, you won't really see big income until you hit 600. On most servers, potions don't sell for as much as transmutes or flasks, but super raiders will get them to have any edge.
That said, most super raiders already belong to a guild that provides all they need, and they really aren't your buyers.
Transmutes sell for more gold than flasks, but you are limited in the number you can make in one day. Flasks are only limited by herbs, and since you can grow those at Sunsong Ranch, plus farm them, you can make great numbers of flasks.
That might mean the market gets flooded now and then, but on raid days you will see a bump just before prime time.
tl;dr: yes, switch, pick up either Transmute or Elixirs/Flasks as your specialty, and make money. Sell any extra herbs for a side bump.

If all you want to do is make money just screw all the the crafts and either skin or mine with your other profession.
But having put in all that work into leveling Inscription, throwing it all away seems a waste. If it was me I would rather level up a new Alchemist Toon with BOA's since the easy money for this x-pac has come and gone. The effort would be more but not all that unreasonable. But failing that switching to Alchemy is probably as good as you are going to get in a profession.

I think the way to make money off Inscription is the Darkmoon Cards and trinkets. Don't you do those? If you switch out from Inscription, you lose the nice special enchants.
I think I agree with the 'start a new toon for Alchemy' idea.
Cheers.

I should have mentioned the Darkmoon Cards and the Staves.
I totally stopped making the Cards in Cata because the time needed was just imo unreasonable. Its still too much ink, but they made a big change in MoP; you can get the rare ink with SoH from your farm. With enough alts you can actually make money reasonably quickly without spending hours and hours picking flowers.
The other thing Lankybrit mentioned were the Staff's. The 476 BOA epic staff's are better than anything you can get from the AH* short of a BOE Raid Drop if such actually exist. Heck even the 424 BOE staves Scribes can make are selling for 2k on my server. Although If you are str based these won't help though, they are either Int, Int/Spt, or Agi based.
*(none atm on my realm for a caster, one i476 1h sword for a str based tank)

When I first read this post, I thought it might be a joke, but then I saw people commenting -seriously- in the affirmative. A transmutation alchy is a good idea, but you would make more money dropping herbalism and taking it on most servers I play on.
A 600 Scribe drop, really? Did you already make all the BOA staves for agility and intellect for yourself? Did you consider making 2 sets so you could server transfer a maxed toon with heavy gear to jumpstart a new server? Have you EVER heard of the AUCTION HOUSE?
I made 2000g during a week listing glyphs in the evening while watching television. Maybe only 2-7% sell, so what? List 15-30k gold worth of merchandise and you get 225g to 500g per day statistically speaking. Add in Darkmoon Cards, then add in shoulder boosts and don't forget the kites. The kites are still selling for 75-150g, expect hundreds from each shoulder boost and don't forget that new level 85 toons pop up, and new gear comes out all the time needing new shoulder scribbles.
What are you waiting for scribe? Stop wondering and start scribbling! You need at least 3x 32 slot inscription bags for your craft, btw. I find the purchase of herbs to be more profitable than the farming of many of them. I farm for rare herbs and when I need certain things that seem expensive, or when I am bored and want to go flower picking while waiting for a queue to pop.
The big difference between your craft and the alchemist? Everybody needs the scribe at least a few times per toon. Nobody needs a potion maker except people looking for an edge raiders and twinks that do not have their own elixir makers and don't have a guild supplier. Just who do you plan on selling to and when?
