Why are Females used as Transmog images?
Return to board index

It would be nice if we could choose whatever race/gender that we wanted for the screenshots. Now I realize that it takes a lot of work to just make the pictures. That's fine but why female? A lot of us play male characters.
Another thing is that the thumbnails for the screenshots are too far down. The head/helmet is cut off so we can't really see how the transmog looks without mousing over it.
Solution:
Correct the thumbnail issue. Add a race/gender selector that changes the screenshots on the fly for all the transmogs.
Here is the page I am referring to.

Actually, if you click on a picture it will take you to a that set's page. You can then click "View in 3D" which will bring up the model viewer. At the bottom of that you can select both the race & gender you'd like to see it in, as well as different animations :)

We use the same model throughout for consistency, and human females presented a realistic look--users have complained that armor details were hard to see on other races we've used for previews, such as blood elves.
The transmog database is meant to be a visual teaser and if we showed larger images, the page would take longer to load. That said, there are some images that look funny, and we periodically update the images. In fact, some screenshots were retaken last week and should be uploaded this week or so--lilith redid a bunch.
And as tpyrotekk said, using the 3D modelviewer allows you to select any race/gender combo you like :)

The thumbnails are all broken atm. All of them are cutting the face off. They don't need resizing they just need to be "moved up" from the original picture. So instead of seeing more of the chest you see more of the face.
Second, I realize that the images are a "visual teaser" but I also realize that they are a quick reference for me to see if I like the set or not. I can scroll through a whole page of "visual teasers" in about 10 seconds. How long would it take me to do the same thing with my own race? The inefficiency here is where the real problem lies. I love the sets and appreciate the time that you guys have put into compiling them. However we can't get the best experience if we have to load the model viewer up just to see if we don't like the set.....

Another thing you could do with the thumbnails is scale the image smaller before you crop so you can fit more in the thumbnail.
