Am I Doing Something Wrong with the Uploader?

I've been using the uploader for a while now. 1-2ish months maybe? Not sure.
In that time, I've uploaded 3.3MB of stuff over 33 uploads. The typical upload size I see is around 10-20kb, although 100kb appears to be the average.
Let me be clear, I play a LOT of WoW. 12-hours-straight kind of WoW. I do it all, as well. I grind, hunt rares, PvP, raid, etc. There's nothing I'm not doing. I started uploading in the first place because I figured, hell, I do so much stuff wowhead could probably really benefit!
But I see other people's profiles all the time! Example:
http://www.wowhead.com/user=totorohugger
41 uploads for 4.1 GB? What the?
And while that's an absurd example, I see PLENTY of people who end up being like 100 uploads - 100 MB, or whatever.
So what gives? For a while I thought it was because I would often delete my WoW/Cache/ folder (in order to reset _NPCScan the lazy way) but I haven't done that in weeks and the situation hasn't changed. I don't expect 100MB uploads, but... a 14-hour WoW session yesterday netted me a 12kb upload? Really? I didn't collect more than 12kb worth of data or something?
Am I doing something wrong or have something incorrectly configured that is causing me not to upload properly or collect data properly or something?

It really depends on the frequency of your uploads, someone who has done 100 uploads over a period of 1 year will have a much higher amount of data than someone who uploaded 100 times in the period of a month simply because the uploads are spread out further and therefor contain more data.
I don't think anything is wrong with your uploads, my uploads are usually anywhere between 100-400kb and I upload about 2-3 times in 2 weeks.

I've always assumed that the client avoids re-uploading data whenever it can, i.e. only uploading new entries in the existing cache. I've also always assumed (but never tested) that you can "cheat" it by clearing cache before starting the game.
The disparity between different users' number of uploads / total amount of data can be really large as you've already pointed out though, and I'd also love to see this clarified.

The amounts of your average upload are very similar to mine as well. I have 377 uploads for only 16.8 MB. I believe it has been discussed in the past that we'll be possibly reducing the amount of MB's needed to get the various site achievements but no idea as to when that might be adjusted.
Regarding the user you referenced, I believe it's one of the accounts that was subjected to the "upload" bug not that long ago. For a brief period of time anyone who made a new account and uploaded with the client would automatically get the 4.0 GB even though their actual upload was no where near that amount. I looked at this individuals uploads and none of them are any higher than yours so he was definitely connected to that brief bug.
Lastly, what data the client actually collects and whats relevant, I honestly don't know. Perhaps one of the developers can answer that part of your question. I do know personally that it seems like I have a lot of data sometimes but once it's compressed it becomes pretty trivial. I estimate it will take me several more years just to get to 50 MB let alone the 150 MB.(##RESPBREAK##)12##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

Such a clarification would be very useful. As a coder myself, I understand that "knowing your own work" sometimes yields insights into little quirks about your work (Small things, like 'blah-blah is more efficient or more effective under these specific conditions, or less efficient or less effective under these other ones', etc). If a dev could share insight like that, or at least explain what types of things are uploaded (just to be a bit more conscientious of it when playing), perhaps some people can make better use of the uploader.
On another note, @Cala that makes sense. I have my uploader set to "Always upload upon game close" so it would make sense that I'd submit a lot of 'smaller' uploads.
Of course, this leads to a bit of another question I've always wondered. The site awards 25 rep per upload according to the reputation page. Does that mean that people who submit tons of small uploads get more rep than people who submit fewer, larger uploads? Even if there were some kind of 'minimum upload' to qualify, that doesn't seem very fair at all. I think it'd make more sense honestly if you got rep on a per-MB basis or something of that nature. Every 100KB=25 rep, or something or another. Just a thought.

The rep is 25 x 2 per week. Regardless of size. So there is a 50 rep limit per week for anyone who uploads.

In the last 9 days, I have received 9x 25 rep for uploads..
I have 2462 uploads, for a total of 102,1MB...

There was a bug, right around Christmas, that hindered the 50/week limit. I believe it's been fixed since then. You should have only two upload credits since the reset on Sunday. Feel free to do a new upload and if you receive credit again, let us know please.(##RESPBREAK##)12##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

Let's see how many I get redit for.. So far, it's 2+2+7+7+8+8+9+9+9 days since I got rep..
But at a glance, it could look like it have been changed/fixed again..

So, when does the data actually get streamed into the data on the site?
http://www.wowhead.com/item=90818#contains:0+16-15+1
Is a perfect example of data not going into the collection of data from everyone. Ive personally put in data for over 400 satchels at this point, and I know that items such as
Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake
SHOULD be on there. Ive uploaded data for two of them. What gives? Whats the point of uploading if it never goes mainstream?
Are you aware that a new Satchel of Mysteries was added for Mists of Pandaria which contains different items than the
Satchel of Exotic Mysteries
we got during WotLK and Cataclysm (note that difference in name).
Unless you received those 2 Blue Proto-Drakes in your Satchel in MoP, the information you uploaded for them would've gone to the old satchels page.

I hope this isn't considered a necro... I came to the forums looking for this very information so Sas148's post was really helpful. I have wondered the same as the OP if the data I was sending was even accurate and then ran across a few of the 4 GB profiles and was wondering what was up. It is good to know that was only a bug.
BTW, don't feel bad about your upload count, mine is only 39 MB, yet I have done over 1500 uploads. I figure at this rate the WoW movie will be on DVD before I ever ge the Uploader achieve. lol

Likewise, I hope this isn't considered a necro. I found this thread with a search and figured commenting here was better than starting a new thread.
I used to upload every day. After 732 uploads I only have 22.1 MB uploaded. At that rate, it would take another 924 uploads to get to the silver achievement.
1,656 uploads to get to the silver achievement seems a bit excessive. That's over 4.5 years of daily uploads. And the gold achievement would take over 13.6 years. Since WOW is only 9 years old, that would mean nobody would have the gold achievement for another 4 years.
There must be something folks do that increases upload size. A lot of AH stuff maybe?
