Hey there,
So i hear if you get no loot from your LFR and only gold, you can redo LFR until you win a loot?
Is that true?
or how does LFR work now?

No. You can enter the LFR as many times as u want but u will get a chance for loot only once a week.

each week you can kill the LFR bosses as often as you like, however only the first time you kill it you will get either an item or gold (random chance).
you however can use
Elder Charm of Good Fortune
as often as you like on bosses too get a chance at another item/gold. these are even useable if you already killed a boss on LFR that week.
just remember you can only earn 3 of them a week so spent them carefully

Okay--this will likely get me banned from every guild, dungeon group and raid forever but what the ... is a LFR? These acronyms need a dictionary somewhere?

Looking for Raid.
Which is something I still don't understand. They call it the Raid Finder and Dungeon Finder, but their acronyms are LFR and LFG. Not a big deal, pet peeve is all.

Because it's a system for look for a group or raid? Since you know, people have been using 'Looking For *insert name here*' since the game started.

Like Adamsm said, it stems from "looking for group", which I just noticed the other day is a chat channel that still exists (though I'm not sure why).
Back in the days before the "Dungeon Finder tool", the idea was for you to join this chat channel and spam out your "tank LFG for UBRS!". Despite the existence of this channel, most people just used /1 or /2 so trade was always full of people looking for groups for stuff (JUST LIKE TODAY!). The tool just limited the need for spamming a chat channel for current 5man content.

Not to get off-topic, but wow, I cringed a little inside remembering the way it used to be.
