Lvl 90 Low Assassination Rogue DPS

So I did a few dg/heroics in Cata and my DPS was always the highest.
I tried to do my first mop heroic and I was concerned that my DPS (20k without cool downs) would be too low. I was right - most people did 30k-60k and I still only did 20-25k.
My gear is only 448, but I dont know how to improve that without doing heroics to get the gear (dailies would take me ages yet before I can get good gear from them - they are what I spend most of my time doing).
My hit/exp is around the 7.5% cap. I used ask mr robot to reforge and I have some of the cheaper enchants (no point buying expensive ones till I get better gear). I dont have any gem slots yet.
My normal routine (no cooldowns) 20k -
Stealth -> Shadow Step -> Ambush -> SnD ->
Mutilate/(Backstab Proc) (>35% to 4/5 combo) > Rapture
Mutilate/(Backstab Proc) (>35% to 4/5 combo) -> (Rapture/Envenom/Recuperate)
Backstab (<35%) -> Envenom
My Poisons are Leeching and Deadly
My weapons are the final quest ones and are only lvl 437.
Will better gear make the difference or am I doing something else wrong? How do I get my DPS up, 20k seems really low?

Rogues are heavily gear dependent. Now more than ever. I can't find it, but a Blue post even used us as an example of a class that will seem underpowered off the bat, but will scale well with gear.

if you're *only* doing heroics, you don't need the full 7.5% hit/exp cap to get capped. the heroic bosses are only level 92, while raid bosses ar level 93. if you're 437 ilvl, then you're forced to reforge every single bit of gear to hit or exp, which is a major dps loss.

Use mutilate to open over Ambush, and start with rupture immediately so venomous wounds ticks sooner, then snd, and then maintain with maximum envenom uptime.
Also you should be using fan of knives and tempest for more than 2 targets, but still maintain snd/rupture.

Single target - mutilate to 4/5, apply rupture. If you have a Dispatch proc, use it, if not mutilate once & apply SnD. Mutilate again to 4/5, envenom to max SnD. From this point just keep a 4/5 rupture ticking at all times and Envenom for dps and to keep SnD up.
If you're on a boss, same idea, except open with vendetta. Save Shadow Blades for Heroism, if that buff's not available make sure SnD is up before you activate Shadow Blades.
2 Targets that won't die uber fast - Open on the first with Garrote, Mutilate, SnD. Switch to 2nd target - Mutilate to 4/5, rupture, mutilate to 4/5, envenom to refresh SnD. You'll have 2x Venomous wounds replenishment coming in since you have bleeds on 2 targets.
3+ targets: Open on one with garrote, FoK to 5, Crimson Tempest, then spam FoK (while keeping one of them targetted so you build CP with FoK) and CT at 5.
For all encounters you should always use your Dispatch procs wisely - mostly use them to go from 4 to 5 cp, or use them when your energy is pooling after a finisher.
As mentioned, rogues are pretty gear dependant, and mutilate rogues require patience and proper use of energy / energy pooling. If you are just mashing buttons and improperly using energy it's gonna show. As far as AoE, some other classes are pretty strong this xpac (namely fury warriors, warlocks, and monks) so you won't always top the deeps on large packs of trash, but once your gear and stats are where they need to be you should dominate on boss fights.

No...just no. If anything, use garrote as an opener.
Venomous Wounds
states, and I quote, "Each time your Rupture or
Garrote
deals damage to an enemy that you have poisoned...Garrote will not trigger this effect if the enemy is also afflicted by your Rupture". So opening with garrote+SnD+mutilate+mutilate+envenom to get all your buffs going asap is key. This lets you instantly get venomous wounds WAY sooner (assuming you poison the target on first hit) and so more dps is done.
I bet you got your rotation from noxxic/icy didn't you awskar? Does noxxic/icy tell you what to do if you cannot use the anticipation talent because of raid mechanics? You're supposed to envenom at 3, 4 or 5 combo points so that you don't have any chance of wasting combo points.

Has anyone besides me felt as if we do more damage since the maintenance? I've only done some dailies, but it felt like I had a flask on or something. I had to reduce my envenoms from 4-5 pointers to two-three if I wanted to have enough time to build some CPs for recuperate.

Actually, as energy starved as Assassination is with low gear it is optimal to Mutilate out of Stealth with
Shadow Focus.
Read
Coldkil's Guide.
Stuffeh's suggestion is also valid, and it's mainly up to you. Though he didn't have to be a jerk about it.

dude dont tell him not to garrote when garrote ticks 2 secs versus garrote's 3 secs, open with mutilate with shadow focus for free 2 combo pts, u can push 5 after that easily and rupture.

Combat is great for surviving as the cleave and killing spree combine with leeching poison etc etc just works out (i use it for raid).
Also as people have said before
Anticipation
doesnt mean stack up to the hills and release 2 x 5 combo points. Its just there to help retain.
If you got the points use it.

If you plan to use assassination in heroics, don't waste much time on mobs. Start SnD, then Rupture-tab-Rupture-tab-etc.
Mobs die so quick it's not even fun; for bosses, it's all about gear nd we're extremely dependant on it, especially at lower levels of gear.
But when you have the gear, bosses explode then you don't even have the time to do a full cycle :P
