General Forum Behavior

As a long time web surfer, gamer, and forum lurker, I have come to notice that a lot of the basic forum behavior standards are getting thrown to the wayside here as of late. Over the past week, I have seen at least 4 threads get the "necro treatment". If you are going as deep into the forums to find posts that haven't had a comment in over a year, have the common sense not to post in them and let them continue to creep slowly into the graves of threads long past.
If you feel it is something that needs revisiting, make a new thread and link to the old one so that it doesn't bring up out of date information/opinions and confuse our new users.
Just to remind everyone you can find the forum rules here!

Pretty sure we have moderators, but thanks.
See, that's like saying no one should ever say anything about anyone doing anything unpleasant or that detracts from the community they're in, unless the cops get involved. Sometimes, people just want to keep the forums nice, and don't want people who have poor attitudes or who fill it with spam to mess everything up.

I think it's more like a neighborhood watch person who writes their own disciplinary tickets for people around the block.
How does a friendly reminder about forum etiquette turn into a debate about neighborhood watch? I am a long time member of the forums here and don't want the forums I view on a daily basis looking junkie with out of date material because someone went to page 415 and commented on something from 2 years ago that is no longer relevant.

Yeah.
Friendly reminders of etiquette is nice and personally I agree with OP.
And what comes to forums engine, it seems pretty decent, so there should not be issues with posting new topics.
PS. Can dev crew do a cron script to lock topics which are inactive for X number of days ?

We have no interest in locking all old threads. Some are perfectly fine to be revived as long as they don't contain outdated or misleading game information. An example is
this
recently revived thread which is old but perfectly fine.
Most threads that are inappropriately revived are done so by individuals who are new or found the thread via Google and didn't notice how old it was. In those cases we try and handle them once we see them or they're reported.

I'm surprised there's nothing about general user behavior/etiquette here...
Oh well...

It's not needed and frankly comes off like you're bucking for a mod spot.
That was the exact conclusion I came to reading it. Put in a Résumé or something if you want the job that badly.
I wouldn't be surprised if the mods didn't feel a tad insulted by your post, We have a report button which is frequently used and reports are ALWAYS dealt with in a timely fashion.
Why don't you test it? Go post something in Russian.
Actually, you really wouldn't want me as a mod, because every time something nonproductive like this was posted it would be deleted.
As for your attempt at flaming me Entropyutd, after reporting the thread that was posted in Russian, I did reply to him letting him know this was an english only forum so that he did not feel ignored.

I'm going to wait until this post is pages and pages deep and then Necro it for pure irony :)
Cheers.

As much as I'd love to see this happen just for the lolz, the way entropy and lonewolf are going at it you may not get the chance unless threads unlock after a certain amount of time has passed.
attempt at being productive: I agree with Glanzman on how difficult it is to search for recent pertinent information in the forums and how it's too easy to necro without meaning to do wrong. Some sort of chronological order to the search results would be awesome.

I agree entropyutd. It is nice to see what people talked about, but that doesn't mean we need to reply to a post that is 2 years old. Which was my point. As Sas pointed out, some threads are relevant no matter how old they are, but some threads need to stay on page 415. To give you an idea, if you try to find the first post from 2012, it was on page 37 yesterday Was early yesterday afternoon when I looked, that could have changed by now.
I don't want to be a mod. I have to many other things on my plate to review everything on the forums, but when I see a new post on the front page, open it up and the original post date is from 2009, it just makes me wonder how someone could not read the date before posting. I guess I have just been using forums for so long it is engrained into me not to post on threads over a few weeks old as they are usually dying for a reason.
I just want our new members, and the new players to have relevant information when they come check the first page of the forums, and know what the up to date concerns are about our favorite game.
I'm going to wait until this post is pages and pages deep and then Necro it for pure irony :)
Cheers.
If you look at some of the threads I linked, this seems to come up in every one of them. Be a tool and reply to it after it has been dead for 6 months and we can all point and laugh at you for being one of the people this post is directed at.
