So now that hunters require expertise to avoid their shots being dodged does that mean we should be attacking bosses from behind like a melee dps?

I thought (and forgive me if I am wrong- don't do much with melee toons) that being parried or blocked was what you were worried about with frontal attacks, since in theory those rely on a weapon or a shield, but for dodge it didn't matter.

melee dps relies on being expertise capped to avoid their attacks being dodged which is all a boss can do when you attack it from behind as they are unable to block or parry unless you are in front of them.
So the way I am seeing this new requirement of hunters to be expertise capped to avoid shots being dodged it would logically follow that they attack from behind to avoid being shots being blocked or parried when attacking from in front.
Now if a hunters shots are immune to blocks and parries its a non issue and we can attack from anywhere as usual.
Just wondering if anyone had some solid info on this subject, I would go and test it myself if I weren't being disconnected every few moments and or suffering from game crashes.

AH- sorry, I misunderstood. I haven't been raiding since the patch-my guild took a vacation.

I'm pretty sure Hunter shots cannot be parried, and thus this is a non-issue. I never had this issue on beta or live, so....
I think they may have also fixed block to do the same (or just removed block from bosses).

Ok so I managed to find one of my hunters to test with that didnt get disconnected every few moments, here are the results.
Level 85 hunter, against level 93 target dummy
Ranged Hit 7.85%
Expertise 9.02% (a little high I know but close enough for this test)
1003 Auto Shots facing dummy
58 Dodged,
79 missed,
0 Blocked,
0 Parried.
1001 Auto Shots behind dummy
55 Dodged,
75 Missed,
0 Blocked,
0 Parried.
So I guess considering what the rest of you have said and my small test sample there is no special positioning requirement against bosses due to the implementation of expertise for hunters.

That seems about right.

With the previous chance of being blocked (per
This thread on EJ
) being ~5% when attacking from the front, the chance that there are no blocks in 1k shots is negligable, I think it is safe to say that ranged attacks no longer get blocked - provided the results are acurate - which they don't seem to be;
At greate rthan 7.5% hit and 7.5% expertise you should not be seeing either missed or dodged shots against a level 93 dummy if you are level 90.
If you are not level 90 (live or beta) and attacking the boss dummy, we can't really use the dodge/miss data, as you are missing 5.78% and getting dodged 7.88%.
If you are level 90, it seems as though expertise is 0, and hit is ~2-3%?

^ This was tested on live servers as an 85 as stated, I am well aware that at just over 2000 auto shots combined the sample is small if you have anymore solid data to add please do.
