Deleting Comments Removes One Rep

I sometimes go through my comments to see anything in the negative and delete them to prevent any further rep loss (and indirectly clean up the database of my not-so-liked comments) but I discovered a rep loss. I had 8,800 but after deleting three comments, I am now at 8,797.
Is this intentional? If so, why isn't it in the reputation page description?

It does indeed remove the 1 reputation that you earned when you originally posted it. The fact that this deletion doesn't show in the Reputation History is beyond my role but I'm sure an administrator can comment about that. I do believe this was likely intentional to prevent abuse by those who may post several comments just for the rep and then delete them. Having that rep removed when deleted prevents that possible abuse.
i think you meant more then 8000 since if you rep went from 8000 too 8797 rep you gained some (a lot!)
anyway as far im aware yes its intentional, each comment you make will give you 1 rep and each up-vote 5 rep (downvotes dnt do a thing anymore) if you delete a comment you will loose the rep from posting it and any up-vote's it had gotten. since it doesnt excist anymore.
considering it like this: if you have a 5story building. and remove the foundation you cant keep the rest, everything has to go. (if it doesnt make sense, im generally bad at such examples :P)
You don't lose the reputation you earned from up-votes when you delete a comment. Just the initial 1 reputation from posting it in the first place.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##sas148##DELIM##

Not sure about your experience, but I double checked what happened on my own comments before making the post.

Thank you for the replies and clarification. It makes sense now. I also edited my original rep amount. Numbers fail :P
