Overpriced in AH?

I was just looking in the AH to see what gear I could buy, and realised I can get no good gear. I was looking for my alt lvl 73.
It is like "Green Text" items cost about 200-2000g (big range). Some stuff is fine and I would buy, but other users put items for such crazy prices.
For Example:
<- this link might not work- it is the Simple Robe of Shadow Wrath
(this item was just a browse through because I was curious how crazy the prices are.)
This item costs 562g (Aggramar) and its a lvl 10 item!
I couldn't believe some of the prices users have put on the AH.
Is it the same for your realms?

You can thank transmog for ruining the value of those greens.
I'm leveling my enchanting (I always wait til I'm at max level, and horde most the mats til then) and I'm at the point where I'm having to go back out and farm more because those greens and blues I need are over priced times 150%, which makes the enchanting supplies sky rocket as well.
It's a huge bummer. I saw a round plain shield on the AH for 25g. It's like, whoTF is going to pay that much for that shield. Seriously.

Since they introduced Transmog, items can be valued for appearance by max level players even if they are low level, and because of this they can be priced like end-game gear.
This
is my current transmog set on my main (minus the shoulders and helm, and the boots which look dumb on a Draenei). I managed to get those pieces cheaply, but I'd have easily paid 1-2k for a piece if I really wanted it to complete the set. The value is in the appearance, and not that they're a level 20-something or 60-something green.
Also, some levels of enchanting mats are expensive- especially if the drop chance is low, like on essences and shards, and it's hard to get over the hump leveling enchanting without them. Many low-priced greens get bought out quickly and disenchanted because they're worth more that way. Generally, greens on the AH are only there for any length of time when the posting price is more than the enchanting mats are worth.

For the problem with Enchanting, that's really why you wait and power level it; since then you can just speed run through the instances and move to the next higher one as you progress through the level.
As for the prices: Yes, it is all about the Transmog, but at the same time, you out level random greens so fast, they aren't worth buying on the AH in the first place.

For leveling- Don't buy gear other than heirlooms. You level so fast it will go to waste anyway, and soon be replaced by a quest/dungeon item.
For enchanting- Preferably level it with tailoring. At least on my server the cheapest way to get low level enchanting mats was to d/e items made by tailoring. If this is not an option, at least look up a popular tailoring guide, see what they disenchant into, then look for those items on the ah as items people make tons of for leveling professions often sell for low prices on the ah due to the sheer quantity of them.

The thing about low level items being overpriced is that low level characters have access to these items too, and can sell them for just as much. A low level toon shouldn't be complaining that copper costs 50g a stack to buy. they should go out and farm 10 stacks to sell at 50g. The only revenue source that doesn't keep up with the inflated prices is the actual gold quest rewards and from mobs, but those always are much less of your income than items on the AH anyway.
Also, I agree with Adams. Buying green gear on the AH to level in is kind of a waste of money- it will be out-leveled very soon.
As far as enchanting goes, I leveled it with tailoring, so that I could churn out a non-stop supply of greens for mats just by grinding mobs.

Yeah, I've been leveling enchanting with tailoring on my priest and it's definitely helped a bunch. It's just that certain enchanting supplies only drop off certain items more often, and I'm not getting the mats I need from what I make. It's the pits! Enough of my qq....
If you want to see it even worse, check out the AH on an RP server. In particular, the components for greens that match common NPCs (especially city guards) are regularly in the thousands because people will pay it.
I've seen it. I started a random toon on an RP server and saw the AH prices. Holy crud.

Now I feeling rather stupid. I've been doing some work on old reputations and I've been vendoring out habit all the green stuff I come across. How the heck do you know what is a valuable green item or not?
Does it look cool/interesting? You have an item that people will pay money for.

Ctrl+LeftClick is your friend. I check the appearance of every piece of gear I pick up now. This works a lot better on a female toon, of course, because a lot of the expensive pieces are expensive because they show skin on female toons. I have a guildie who links all of his greens in guild chat so I can tell him how they look, since his toons are all male.
