Some quick ways of getting gear:
- Buy a set of BoEs from the Auction House.
- Have a Leatherworker friend make you a set.
- Que for BGs and farm honor gearless. (Makes you a huge pain in the butt for your team though.)
- Go back to some low lvl zones to earn enough gear to allow you to quest in zones your level to get better gear.

Personally I would get the heirlooms (btw if you're in a guild and can buy the head and cloak from the vendor those scale to 85), fill in whatever gaps I could get from the AH, and just go quest for rewards. If you're doing enhance, you'll have no issues as long as you have decent weapons.

Get one more level, then get some 85 friends to boost you through BRC and TotT normal (non-LFG)

Didn't I comment on this? Have higher-level friends help you through some quests or dungeons, once you have an appropriate weapon and some gear, you should be able to kill quest mobs yourself. Also check the AH for the slim chance of cheap greens, maybe even a Cataclysm one (iLvl 272 and up)
Que for BGs and farm honor gearless. (Makes you a huge pain in the butt for your team though.) At 77, they would only be able to purchase/equip level 70 pvp gear, not to mention that it'd take ages to get enough honor for a piece of gear (unless you really really like to idle around in BGs)
