I tried to play SWToR yesterday, but realized it hasn't actually gone FTP yet, and I still haven't actually bought the game.
its gonna go F2P this Fall, so basically anywhere between mid-september and mid-november.
You still will have to buy the game before you can create your account, but the game will cost just 15$
Maybe I'll be able to afford it finally.

Honestly, I think the only game that even has a chance of standing is GW2, and it's already F2P with the purchase of the game.
I really, REALLY want the Secret World to go strong, but from what I've seen, poor mob AI and animations might ruin it.

@ rank, thanks for the revision of my post.
I like to review games. Hell I would had made that my vocation if only it was available on my country, lots of people make a (pretty decent) living off reviewing games, like AngryJoe, Gametrailers, Gamespot, IGN, TotalBiscuit, ect.
I also have to add that you can turn off auto attack permanently (or just temporarily) if you want.
I know dude :P I've done my homework on the game, there's also an interesting tidbit: You can cast on the move, even channeled spells. And most importantly, none of the classes are forced to be melee or ranged. Nothing stops you from using a bow as a warrior and be equally effective as a ranger. Nothing stops a ranger from using a sword and being just as good as a warrior. Thieves can use dual-guns and deal just as much long range damage as a mage (elementalist) and elementalists can equip dual daggers and deal just as much melee damage as thieves.
If only other games did that.
And ya, this isn't really the thread for reviewing this game, I agree.
Yep.
Dragon Ball Online, ect ect ect.
That game.......actually suceeded? I stopped hearing about it long ago, I would have thought it dead. It must have a very devoted but silent population then.
Boy it succeeded BIG TIME!. Currently the game has only been released on Taiwan and Korea, and on both nations it has been a rave. So good is it, that unofficial patches to translate the game in english and spanish, and lots of people from america and europe are currently playing on the Taiwanese server (The korean one requires you to have a valid Korean Phone number to be able to create an account)
The only reason you stopped hearing about it is because the game hasn't yet launched outside of Asia. Its planned to be released later this year on China and Japan. But there are no current dates of release for Europe or America (/sad panda)
Edit: Oh, it hasn't come out in the United States apparently, that explains why I haven't heard anything about in in a long time......
Exactly, until the game is officially released over here, you won't hear any reviews, but I have, and actually downloaded and played the game. All I can say its that is a pretty awesome game, double-points if you are a DB fan (it even makes everything that happened on Dragon Ball GT non-canon)
Too bad I can't understand jack squat of what they say =( The patch only translates the UI, but quests and NPC names, and almost everything is still in Taiwanese.
The game is 100% Free2Play if you're interested in checking it out, go
here
. there you can find detailed instructions on how to create a Taiwanese account, and how to download and apply the unofficial english patch.

If only other games did that.
Games have tried and being panned for doing so.
People want distinctive classes because when push comes to shove you'll find that X doing Y is optimal and if everyone can perform that role and be the hero you fall short elsewhere.
You even get situations like WoW had in Vanilla and BC. "Oh I'm sorry you can't or won't perform this role, we have no use for you we already have 5 melee hunters and 2 ranged warriors"
However, the approach used by GW2 is pretty unique, because not only all classes manage to have unique mechanics to make each other different despite all 8 being perfectly viable as melee or ranged combatants, neither melee nor ranged is universally useful.
If you are a warrior, all your ranged skills with rifles and bows are situational, there will be some types of mobs where they will be darned effective, and there will be other situations where if you don't have a melee weapon like 2 axes, you're more or less screwed.
An elementalist dual-wielding daggers looks BADASS using those short-ranged elemental slices, but unless you also pack a staff to fight at range, you will be one useless elementalist because those dual-dagger skills aren't almighty, there are some situations where those skills just won't work well.
In the game, as far as PVE goes, everyone needs to wield at least 1 ranged weapon and one melee weapon. And in pvp, its fully viable to go with either or both (you can equip a primary set of weapons and a secondary set, and swap between them with a small cooldown)
Again, I wish other games would do that, because in most games, some classes are melee, and others are ranged, and invariably the melee classes often get the short end of the stick. They need to MOVE and keep up with their target to deal damage, and if the target manages to put any distance between them and you, you can't do any damage until you close the gap.
Ranged however, often can attack from afar, and from up close with no problem. Not to mention kiting. On wow, you can pretty much kite a warrior and while yes they can use charge and heroic leap to close the gap, those ain't spammable, if your victim manages to re-gain some distance after you've spent those, what you get is a few seconds where all you can do is run trying to catch your opponent.
On GW2, if you are a warrior, you can smash your opponent in the face with a set of dual hammers, if they start to kite you, just whip out the shotgun and shoot them in the face. If you are a rogue and are going stabbity-stab on a foe, and they just freeze you and run away, just put away the daggers and pull out the dual pistols and turn him into swiss cheese. You are a guardian? well, your 2handed sword skills certainly look cool, if someone is trying to kite you, don't just take that BS, equip a scepter and shoot energy balls at them.
I see it as equalizing the playing field. Melee and Ranged skills deal the same damage, and have plenty of limitations as much as they have advantages. Its something I wish more games would do, rather than this crap where ranged toons have a really unfair advantage over melee ones.

RuneScape has no job restrictions. It's not exactly a paragon of balance, nor is it successful on WoW's scale, but it hasn't collapsed due to the lack of such restrictions. There are different, viable gear and "spec" setups at end level too.

Runescape is mostly just a different animal. I'd have more to say on it, but I should probably just write a blog article on it.
