Hey Wowhead Developers,
We went through this all when Cataclysm was released at last minute so I thought I would bring this issue up well in advance of MoP this time.
Can we PLEASE get an additional archive site with a wowhead image based on 4.3.4 (PLEASE MAKE IMAGE JUST BEFORE 5.X GOES LIVE).
This will then be a PROPER and untainted DB for Cataclysm.
When the archive site for WOTLK was done it was based on 4.0.1 and it caused some tainted data because spell changes and ect occured.
So this is a friendly request from the community to get a Cataclysm Wowhead site along side the WOTLK site for archival purposes please.
Thank you very much on my behalf and on behalf of the entire WoW community.

The pre-Cata archive exists because Cataclysm changed so much about the old world, which NPCs were where, the quests and their rewards.
Mists on the other hand, like previous expansions, mostly just adds content instead of replacing it, with minor exceptions like
Lifestone
getting renamed to
Lifestone
For historical data about spell changes and the like, refer to
Wowpedia
.

Why not just remove "archive"? It's just copies live data. No purpose in maintaining it.

Actually, the archive is used by many people and it is not copies of live data. It has comments added from live but the actual data is static data from 4.0.1 (Thus there is no Cata Zones or ect).
So again for archival purposes we should have another mirrored static data site for Cataclysm.
There is still large communities who frequently reference the archive site and will also do the same for a Cataclysm site.
MoP will bring massive changes to spells/talents and possibly much more. This data from wowhead is MUCH more comprehensive then very basic wowpedia data.
Even with the original archive site Wowhead developers did agree the need to archive the data for historical purposes.
Even WoWWiki has the ability to go back and see old data but with WoWhead the best solution is an Archive Site due to the Database nature of how the website works.

There really doesn't need to be; Unlike Cata which completely reworked all of the 1-60 zones, that's not happening again with MoP. All of the Cata content will still be there on Live, so they can just leave it as it is.

The reason why we archived Cata was the insane amount of changes: spellpower going away, the whole world being redone (hundreds if not thousands of quests totally removed/revamped), and so on. In Cata to MoP, not that much will be changing :)
