Client not collecting automatic quests

I just completed three automatically offered quests, but none showed up in my +Wowhead_Looter.lua file after I quit the game.
Unbound Darkness
- offered when you enter the Arcatraz.
Hey There Dalliah
- offered when you complete the previous.
Maximum Security Breakout
- offered when you complete the previous.
To be clear, all are the kind of quest where you don't talk to anyone to accept or turn in - the quests appear in your quest tracker, and can be completed there as well. Regular quests that are offered by/completed at npcs or objects are showing up in the file as expected.

I don't think the Wowhead Client actually attempts to track your quest progress anymore, as that data is pulled from the Armory.

However it should be logging the quests for data - afterall thats what the wowhead looter addon is for - grabbing, logging and uploading all the data.

The only references to quests at all in my lua file were records of which NPCs give these quests - which does not apply in the case of your examples. As the Database already lists the associated bosses as "quest givers", I assume the Addon just registers your current target when you accept a quest - I guess you had no target when you got those quests, or had targetted another player.
The rest of the information about quests is likely pulled from games files examined by the devs' internal tools, or users' cache files uploaded by the Wowhead Client. Note how datamined quests on the Beta/PTR often already list required levels etc. despite not being seen by any player yet.
Don't worry, your Client most likely submitted current data about those quests, you just didn't see anything about them in that particular file, as it is just a part of what the Client collects.

That's a decent theory. However it seems pretty unlikely that my Wowhead Client application uploaded any data about these quests, since the source of data uploads is the two +Wowhead_Looter.lua files (mainly the account one, the user one has very little) which are populated by the +Wowhead_Looter addon/mod.
There are really three possibilities I can think of.
Unknown bug/missing feature - auto quests are comparatively new, and the addon wasn't written to accommodate a quest not coming from a npc/object/item.
Known bug - I couldn't find a thread about this but it may be known and waiting for development.
Intentional feature - this seems pretty unlikely, since as Nooska said, the whole point of the addon and client is to collect real data from playing, and unless I'm missing something there's a whole group of quests that are not getting the treatment that most quests get.

If you go to the quest tab in your character profile, you will see a note below all the progress bars.
Note: Certain quests aren't tracked by Blizzard's API.
(make sure you hover over "certain" to see the full comment)
I understand that this doesn't exactly answer your question, but it does let you know to a degree that this is intentional and expected.

The client no longer pulling quests and hasn't for almost a year, so it's Blizzard's API that will not track those. Sorry! Wish we could help further :)(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##Ashelia##DELIM##

Thanks for responding.
These quests are not repeatable, they do appear in your quest log, and they can be tracked under Objectives. And just to be clear in case there's some misunderstanding, I'm not talking about whether Wowhead knows that my character has completed these quests, I'm talking about wowhead collecting the quest data for the general database. For example, the following data was just added to my +Wowhead_Looter.lua file:
= 28882,
= 51288,
= "turn-in",
= "quest",
= "",
= "npc",
= "Major Marsden",
= "What's that smell? Ah.....Smells like victory. Your efforts in Tol Barad are a great triumph for the entire Alliance, your contributions will not be forgotten.",
Are you saying that the addon can't see similar info for automatically offered quests because the game is somehow hiding it?

I'm not really sure what you mean...
At this point, I'd say what the Wowhead Client effectively collects about quests, what can't be datamined from the game files, are the questgiver and -ender and where the objectives are (indirectly through collecting location info for the mobs/objects, which is then associated with the quests) and minor stuff like when the objectives of a quest are "Kill X members of evil group Z", which stands for several different mobs (see
Not The Friendliest Town
where clicking "Rustberg Village Residents" toggles a list of valid mobs)
If you worry that these infos aren't recorded at all by your client, it was likely just a hiccup that prevented them from being written to the .lua file like other quests - did you maybe experience a crash after doing them, or did you quit via Alt+F4? In these cases, addon saved data from this session isn't written, as the game client is terminated before it can properly do so.
At any rate, without downplaying your contribution, don't worry about this too much - as you can see, the quests are already in the database, with apparently all the start/end data an automated system can gather - I guess these are quests that can be turned in "on the road", without talking to an NPC, as they are part of a quest chain in this instance, so that's why that info seems to be missing - there is no specific NPC you target while completing the quests.
Also consider that these quests are quite new (added in 4.3) and for lower-level content, which isn't run that often these days - especially BC's highlevel dungeons, which probably aren't run that often as levelling players prefer the early WotLK dungeons.
There's isn't much data from users yet - the Wowhead database doesn't simply "trust" everything that is uploaded by users, there has to be data from probably several dozen or hundred users suggesting that quest X is given by and turned in at NPC Y before this will display in the quest's database page.

I was trying to respond to the other posters in this thread, perhaps poorly. To address your last post, my lua file recorded the data from that session, just not anything from automatic quests. I uploaded data with the client, I logged in which cleared the lua file, I did a couple of regular quests and a couple of automatic quests, and I logged out of the game. My lua file had recorded data about the regular quests, but not the automatic quests. I'll use an example below of a very common quest.
To summarize, in case there's been some confusion, or for those new to the thread:
The Wowhead addon collects data as you accept and turn-in quests, and on logout writes that data to a +Wowhead_Looter.lua file that is not specific to your character.
Most quests in the game are offered and completed by npcs/objects/items with yellow exclamation points and question marks. However some quests appear automatically in your Objectives tracker when you perform a triggering event. (For example, when you kill a
Slitherfin Eel
or
Slickskin Eel
,
Once More, With Eeling
appears in your Objectives tracker and you can accept it without talking to or even targeting anyone - no the dead eel does not offer the quest.) If there's an established name for this type of quest please let me know, but for lack of a better term I am calling them automatic quests.
As far as I can tell the Wowhad addon is not collecting data about automatic quests.
As an apparent result, on the Wowhead website these quests can lack Completion text, and have misleading Start information. See my example
Once More, With Eeling
.
If you want to confirm my findings, accept and/or turn-in an automatic quest, logout, and look at your lua file.
Now it's possible that there's some insurmountable technical difference about these quests that keeps the addon from collecting information about them. It's also possible that the Wowhead admins don't care that much about quest data, and that other data like loot drops is more important. I'm just trying to report a bug in the tool that provides all of the "tasty dataz." I suppose ideally it would also be great if a programmer said either "thanks for the heads-up" or "yeah we know about that one." Ashelia may have been trying to say the former and I just didn't understand.

I'm guessing it may be a problem on your end (for whatever reason) since the database already has information about those quests which is likely not datamined from game files and hence collected by other users.
That's what I meant, don't worry if your Client doesn't collect the data if it's already in the database anyway.
