Which DPS spec to choose?

Hi there, fellow druids!
I have a healing priest and a tanking warrior. What I want from my druid is DPS, so here I am pondering over which to choose as the main spec - Feral or Balance. He is level 69 now, so some levelling still to go.
What is your choice and why? I would like to hear certain aspects.
I certainly will have both specs and two sets of gear but one of them needs to be the main if I wish to advance somewhere.
All opinions and points are appreciated! (Other than the obvious one that I should choose myself - of course I will do that, eventually...;) )

I would think - without first hand experience - that Moonkin brings more utility to a group, especially in the form of off-healing and CC. Mana pool gives more space for different kind of moves than energy.
Is this a solid argument at all?
What can Cat do that a Moonkin cannot?

Since you mention that Boomkins can bring off heals, its also important to note that Ferals bring off-tanking. While it is not optimal, its pretty easy to do decent damage and be a good tank with one spec and one set of gear (albeit it won't be the best damage, and you wont be the best tank). Other than that, they both bring a
Rebirth
,
Innervate
,
Mark of the Wild
, and some non-unique
raid
buff
.
I play Feral Tank/Fearl DPS (with DPS as offspec), and I do pretty competitive damage. Feral DPS is in a good place at the moment; some say it's low, but it's just fine if your guild isn't min/maxing. From what I've heard* Boomies require perfect rotation execution or else DPS will totally suck and trying to move while DPSing is just awful. And even when you perform perfectly, damage is just ok, nothing spectacular.
Honestly, I'd say go feral as main spec, especially if you'd like to try tanking too.

Thank you for you points! I will stick to feral cat as my main spec. I really enjoy playing such an agile character. Soloing is also just wonderful!
Yes, kitty brings a lot of utility!

I levelled 2 druids 1 to 85 so I could have all 4 specs. First one which was my main for best part of 4 years was cat dps with bear off spec. 2nd I tried to level as moonkin but found it a bit slower & more difficult. I only got to about level 25 or so (we're going back a while here probs BC expansion, so don't know how it fares at the moment), so I switched it out to go as cat again until I had a few more talent points to play with, then levelled as moonkin again I think was from about level 57/58 or so, when I could hit outland.
Main is now resto which I'm loving & I have bear off spec to solo some older content. The 2nd druid now takes care of my need to rip / shred stuff ;)
Only played moonkin briefly this expansion. I know they changed starfall so you only hit mobs with it that you already had in combat, which is a shame. It was great for solo farming when you could pull a whole continent with it, which obviously had it's downside if not careful :D Used to farm righteous orbs in Strat so fast with the moonkin!
Personal taste I guess, but your choice is a good one & I'm sure you'll have fun as Kitty DPS. As already stated, if for some reason an off-tank is needed then is great utility as well. The main thing I like while levelling is stealth to do some quests quickly where you need to get an item but don't need the hassle of killing maybe a cave full of mobs to get to it. I know any druid spec can stealth but is nice to just de-cloak so to speak & start pounding that mob. Have fun...... I'm just about to start on my 3rd druid to sample levelling in Cataclysm :)

Both are completely viable. The best and only advice you should listen to is
your own
. Try them both, THEN make your decision.

Have I understood correctly that in the future a balance druid does not have to look like a fat chicken? Hiding moonkin form or something? That makes balance more appealing to me!
