As a child, every game that you played had a tremendous amount of value. the time to video game was ur precious time to play. you were on a schedule, dependent on ur parents, which gave more value. whereas now, you have only urself to determine when or how you'll play it, with little or no pressure.
That's why it's easy to go back to games you played, because you had a personal affiliation with it.
I can play mario 1, 3, mario party 1, yoshi's story, and all those other games i played as a child because I loved them as a child. because of that, I will always *love them. i beat final fantasy 7 3 times.
When we were younger, our passion was much stronger, so when we look back on at it, we can't help but love it. if you loved something as a child, you are bound to still love it even being old.
i dont care what people say, monster truck action figures would never get boring, or starcraft 1 action figures.
any other game that i play now, i never dig into it. it's just another thing. as we get older, we get bolder (critique the game, generalize the game, place little value on it) or maybe it's dumber. debating. ;P

and new games suck
I wholeheartedly disagree. Well, I disagree with the generalization. A good portion of Triple A titles are somewhat lackluster nowadays, but this is mostly the case (for me at least) when companies ship the (relatively) same game with a new number on it, and other franchises that have been hooked up to the milking machine.
My biggest gripe with newer games is the lack of focus on making a truly memorable experience. It's like too many developers having ten point scales for Graphics, Gameplay, and Story, and can only spend twenty points.
Old games aren't inherently better than new games, it's just that the old games people still play are classics for the ages. I still own copies of Final Fantasies VII, VIII, and IX, recently acquired Legend of Legaia, Vagrant Story, and the first Star Ocean and Final Fantasy for PSP, and am looking for a reasonably priced copy of the second Star Ocean.
I'm also looking forward to Diablo 3, Hitman: Absolution, and have my eyes and ears open on a couple other franchises as well.
I think there's a difference between the nostalgia of a relived childhood from a game and the nostalgia of playing a game that's still a great experience twenty years later.

Yeah...I may settle, but I really want to play it in it's original state.

Oh of course, but that's the issue heh; people know what they have, and are going to try to get the best amount of money for it that they can get.

Yeah, my best bet is to wait until my local game store finds a copy. They price to sell video games, not collectibles.

Why does nostalgia stay with us? At this rate it's more fun being a child because you are more susceptible to indoctrination. I'm kind of circling around my point without actually getting to it, but you know what I mean - I assume.
I think it's because of something about relating to those past memories
and wearing glasses of a rosy color
. There's just some psychological complex involving past memories (especially ones that seem more pleasant) that gives a feeling of fulfillment or something.

I think nostalgia is different for everyone. Everyone has different times in their lives that they specifically remember and found joy in something that brings back great memories. I think the older you get the more general your nostalgia becomes. I'm 30 now and my range is greater then when i was 20. I've had a lot of pretty good gaming memories that even now i'll go back and play a game and think wow the graphics are terrible but this game is still awesome. Just to name a few from the different eras.
NES: mario, ice climbers, rampage
SNES: Super Mario 3, Super Mario World and Mario Kart
N64: Mario 64 still one of my all time favorite games and the mario kart 64. smash brothers anyone?
PS1: FF7 and FF8 obviously
PS2: FF9 and FF10 and the first 2 tony hawk games
I have so many PC games i'd go back and play just to play, D2, starcraft, counterstrike, age of empires 3, ragnarok online, vanilla wow?
I think the point i'm trying to make is that when you get older like me T.T you'll have more experiences that you can think back on. If they were great experiences even if the gameplay wasn't that great or the graphics were horrible you still remember the feelings you first had playing the game. I mean cmon don't you still get chills when you see sephiroth? or hear his theme music x.x

My nostalgia includes some games, but I didn't really get into gaming untill my teens with my Genesis and Snes, I got my first PS1 at 22(late bloomer on up to date gaming lol). My favorite memories were my Lego's,I would sit for HOURS and just build anything and everything I could imagine. My best friend and I would also alternate between GI Joe's, and our Ertl farm equipment(who remembers those? >.>). Good times, good times. Life sure was simple back in those days, sometimes I wish I could go back and trade the worries I have at 31 for the ones I had at 10 lol

Yes but it came out just months before the PS2 was released so a majority of people probably played it on PS2.

That is true; but it still showed off the full power of what the PS1 could do...similar to how Twilight Princess was the finale of the Gamecube.
