… the cartoony argument to me? I’m actually asking, I really don’t get it. It’s easy to ignore the “pandarens are kung-fu panda!” because it’s the same as “worgens are twilight!”, the always classy “blood elfs are gay!” and my favorite “silithid are just zerg and new draenei are just protoss!” Also, from looking at the face of kung-fu panda vs the faces of what we’ve seen of pandaren, aside from the panda part I don’t see a strong similarity. Very different styles.
Anyway, what I don’t understand, at all, is the “WoW is now cartoony and it sucks!” Umm… what game have you been playing? Warcraft has ALWAYS been the most cartoonish of Blizzard’s 3 main franchises. There is tons of childish, lighthearted, cartoony content in the game and there always has been. The /silly, /dance, etc all of that stuff is, well, pretty cartoony.
“I am mighty Orc Warrior! Brutal fighter of the Horde!”
/Gnome Rogue brushes up against you and farts loudly
Yeah. Seriously, this crap has been around from day one. Remember back in vanilla, the endless naked Night Elves dancing on mailboxes. Thank heavens there wasn’t any cartoonish business going on.
Or take any one of the in-game holidays. One of which just happens to be going on as we speak. “Let’s all put up our pumpkin decorations, wear jack-o-lantern hats, and lob stinky bombs at the enemy.”
“Hi, I’m a Pandaren!”
“GTFO you are childish!”
Or Love is in the Air. Tell me that’s not lighthearted and cartoonish. Tell me.
And Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton is in the game. Has been for years, standing around handing out ridiculously priced handbags. There’s an achievement for it. WARCRAFT IS SRS BIZNESS!
Has anyone played the Goblin starting zones? Anyone? Endless childish antics, pop-culture references, and just generally being goofy. The entire time.
How many quests involve digging in poop? You can put up all the hardcore concept art you want, your mighty character is still going to be asked to dig around in poo for some xp, gold, and maybe an item.
As for the look, so the Pandaren look a bit cartoony to you. Because they look more like pandas with a different body shape? Ok. Don’t all of the races look a bit cartoony? I mean, WoW has never gone for the ultra-realistic look, especially compared to some other mmorpgs. It’s always, even going back to WCIII, had a, well, rather cartoony style compared to other games. I don’t really see a difference. Maybe I just don’t understand.
Same with the environments. I mean the terrain and architecture is different, but that’s to be expected. With all the stuff in-game they have to move into new ground, otherwise everyone would scream that it all looks the same. But stylistically I don’t see a huge difference. Is it cartoony because it had cherry blossom style trees or a different sort of jungle and forest? Or does Asian-themed architecture just look like a cartoon in general? I don’t… can’t…. what? How about Draenei architecture? It’s pretty blah and has glowing pink and purple stuff all over it. CARTOON!
I can’t figure this out. I see people typing words but just nothing connects. I’m so confused. What?
Wait, if everyone is ragequitting, does that mean that my Pandaren monk will be able to quest through the starting area in peace without swarms of people all over? Sweet. This expansion is going to be great!
TL;DR – My brain hurts.

If you don't like it, you find a characteristic about it that for some foolish reason caters to the 'less inteligent than thou' and spam it in the forum. It doesn't matter if said characteristic not only is perfectly valid but also been with the franchise since Warcraft 3.
Just because some pandas appeared in Warcraft 3 doesn't mean we should be able to play it. You don't see a playable High Elf race. And were we even able to play these pandas in Warcraft 3?

I know, the pandaren backlash doesn't surprise me, or the "this is the worst expansion" trollflame whatever. But part of me is just really curious about this argument cropping up more and more. Some people seem really determined to articulate it, and that's what piqued my interest enough to type this up quick.

Yes....as has been said across many of the threads in the last few days.

Well, we still aren't able to play High Elves. Until we get every race from Warcraft 3 playable in WoW, the whole "It's in Warcraft 3, it's okay" won't really work for me for pandas.

High Elves are TECHNICALLY playable.
They're just called Blood Elves (which are essentially High Elves who went a different path).

Technically, about half of the Blood Elf Death Knights are actually High Elves but they've went to the Horde. And the reason why they aren't playable at this point is because except for the eyes, they look just like a Blood elf.

Well, then what about other races from Warcraft 3? I'm sure there are some better choices than pandas.
And I am saying that pandas are cartoonish... so I'm sorry for insulting your
celebral intellectengence

Yes we could. Twice in the main campaign and in any quick battle. They weren't a whole race, but rather a hero called Brewmaster - inspiration for the monk class.
You haven't realized yet that the Pandarens have a rightful place in the Warcraft lore. And the people who, for some reason, don't like this call it a jumping the shark because the Pandas look
'childish, cartoonish, an insult to my
celebral intellectengence
' in spite of WoW, nay the Warcraft Franchise, having a very distinct and cartoonish art style.
Calling them cartoonish is no different than saying 'but blood elfs are gay'.
In fact, why not call Pandarens gay? That would make the rationale behind your arguments much more explicit.
I can think of other further reasons why people dislike Pandas...but you know...I'll leave it unsaid.

....According to who exactly? I loved the Pandarens, and had a massive amount of fun playing as Chen Stormstout during the Founding of Durotar campaign. And the other choices exist in the game: the current factions. About the only thing that isn't are the Nagas and the Ogres at this point.
Also,
Pandarens
,
Pandaria
were in the Warcraft Role Playing Game a long time ago as well.
And I am saying that pandas are cartoonish... so I'm sorry for insulting your

No more cartoonish then the Worgens, the Blood Elves, the Night Elves, the Goblins, the Tauren, the Gnomes, the Dwarves, the Humans, the Orcs and the Trolls.....and especially the Draenei and the Forsaken.

You're not insulting my intelligence, many people who say they are cartoonish do so because its supposed to mean a decline in quality ie: an insult to their supposed inteligence.
The other races involved in Warcraft 3 that aren't playable are(that I rememember): High Elves, murlocs, broken draenei, demon races, naga and ogres.
I think you can add Gnolls to that list.

We don't need to hash out the whole whether or not Pandaren should be in the game, I think there may be one or two other threads on that subject already.
But what you finished with. So the Pandaren are cartoonish. Ok... are they more cartoonish than anything else, like several of the things I listed? Like, what makes MoP more cartoonish than the game as it already exists where my feral tauren druid can fight a fiery elemental, play capture the flag, go to the hair salon, and bake a chocolate cake?

Are any of these better? Personally I'd love to play High Elves, but they aren't different than Blood Elves (barely not even cultural since patch 2.4), the demons aren't turning good, the murlocs aren't turning inteligente, the ogres are too big, the broken draenei are from Outland and the naga aren't betraying Azshara.
Now, I ask, why are the Pandarens the wrong choice.
Because they are as cartoonish as the rest of the entire franchise?
Yes, Murlocs would make a much better race. And just because they are cartoonish isn't the only reason I don't like the pandas. I also don't like all this Asian influence in this expansion. Where did the Azerothian influence go? These pandas resemble real-life pandas too much. If anything, they should be more like how the taurens are set up. Taurens aren't cows standing on two feet... Pandas shouldn't be pandas standing on two feet.
TL;DR Pandariens are pandas on two feet.

Night Elves have Asian influences all over their culture....why don't you have a problem with that? As for your Tauren example....that makes absolutely no sense, anymore then it would if you had used the Worgen.....
TL;DR Pandariens are pandas on two feet. And Tauren are bulls on two feet, Worgens are wolves on two feet, Murlocs/Jinyu are fish on two feet, Mogu are monkeys are two feet, Mantids/Quarji are insects on two feet, etc etc etc etc.
