There is a loss of empathy, and a drive for selfishness. The article that hat linked mentions people being afraid of being implicated. People would rather a child die than be involved in his/her injury. Sad thing indeed.
U_U I'm very ashamed to say that if this happened in MY country* (which is on its way to become comunist like china as well) people would act the same way as those chinese did.
In fact, that woman who carried the child to the hospital was given a comendation, and even some money for her heroism. wanna know what they'd do to you in MY country if you helped a wounded child? they trow YOU in prison.
yes, its as sad, sick, and wrong as it sounds.
Help a wounded person to a hospital, and before you know it, the police are there, and they lock you up, refusing to let you go home, in a small dirty, rat-covered prison cell on the local precinct, untill you clarify what just happened, they dont just take a quick statement, they question you for hours about what happened, and then you must have 1 relative to come vouch for you. This if you are a high-class citizen, if you are from a "questionable background" (which in their book means, anything below middle class, so just about everyone hwo lives on a slum, or a gettho) they keep you locked up due to "being posible acomplice" until they catch the real culprit if ever.
As a result, whenever there's a wounded person on the streets, most people will call 171 (our equivalent of 911) for an ambulance and then just walk away, too afraid of being implicated and incarcerated for up to
7 MONTHS
just for trying to help an inocent victim.
So dont be so quick to judge, I still disaprove of what everyone did, just staring at that poor kid, but if rules and law are so harsh and cruel in my country, where we still have SOME liberties left (which are slowly being anihilated by that ^&*!ING CHAVEZ PIECE OF !@#$) in china the laws outta be much worst.
I know this because I speak from experience, a woman got mugged, and shot in front of my house, and was lying there for over 20 minutes before anyone dared to help her. Me and my wife had just arrived from work and we stood there to lend a hand, and while an ambulance arrived shortly, so did the cops, and I spent 2 weeks, while my wife spent 4 days locked up, just for lending a hand.
Still, it was worth the effort, but most people wound't have done anything about this.
tis a sad cruel truth, but not every country is nice, and clean and squeaky like america, or england, or france, or spain. Some countries are like mine, or china, or somalia, or budan, or nicaragua, where most people are selfish and only look out for themselves.
(*) and yes, my country is Venezuela, once a shiny jewel of south america, today, little better than a pseudo-cuba.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Kangi##DELIM##

This has probably already been posted, but the girl's name was Yue Yue and she was 2 years old. The hospital was not able to save her.

Maybe you should marry someone in the US- you can get a fiancee visa. I nominate Jubilee.

They're way strict about these types of things. My dad had to provide photographic evidence that my mother and he were together for the duration of their marriage (including wedding photos) for some reason or other (not even a greencard).
