Ooh- I forgot about this thread.
as well as the 1990 re-make of
Night of the Living Dead
I prefer the original Night of the Living Dead; the remake isn't bad, but the original was just more freaky.
I did like the first one- I respect it as pretty much the originator of the genre. It was also a big step forward for it's time, as not a lot of movies were casting African Americans in strong leading roles as the hero, especially with a mostly-white cast. Kudos for them.
I think the one thing that makes the second one better, for me, is Barbara. She's he first character we see, the one who leads us into the situation. In the first one she sits around for the whole movie like a useless lump of jelly, and regains enough composure to be slightly less than useless for about 4 seconds before she dies. In the remake, the character kind of evolves over the course of the film. I just feel like the story was better that way.
Suppose so; I still prefer the original, just because the remake goes for the gore aspect at times as well.
It seems like most horror remakes do that, which is a pitty because some movie remakes can be quite good and they miss out on some good opritunitys.
I found this
fan made opening for the TV series, I swear that looks so professional I thought it was the opening for season 2 untill I saw the upload date. They should have used this.

Hmm, I've just had a thought. (Well, last night, but still). If the infection is transmitted by a bite or a scratch (tends to be the case in most zombie flicks I've watched); why don't people just wear body armour? >.>

Because full body armour is very expensive, and the standard person won't have access to it. Then there's the fact that most body armour will be either at police headquarters or the local military base, which are both very very very bad places to go in an outbreak, since everyone and their infected grandmother will be heading for the same location. And even then, if you get swarmed by multiple zombies, they'll just keep ripping and tearing till they pull it all off you. But should read the 'Battle for Yonkers' chapter in World War Z.....yeah, modern warfare with cameras in the helmets...that was a smart idea.....
And even medieval armour is a bad plan; hard to move in, wears you out, and if you fall down, you are living spam in a can.

Because full body armour is very expensive, and the standard person won't have access to it.I never said the individual had to pay for it. ;) Whether that's because the government gets it, or it's already post-apocalyptic (there won't exactly be much competition, and it's not
really
stealing), well, depends on the setting. Then there's the fact that most body armour will be either at police headquarters or the local military base, which are both very very very bad places to go in an outbreak, since everyone and their infected grandmother will be heading for the same location.Well, it worked in the Walking Dead's first episode. ;) And even then, if you get swarmed by multiple zombies, they'll just keep ripping and tearing till they pull it all off you. But should read the 'Battle for Yonkers' chapter in World War Z.....yeah, modern warfare with cameras in the helmets...that was a smart idea.....Hence why you take a gatling gun or a bazooka something equally fatal.
Just saying, these people don't seem to have common sense. :/

No, the generals didn't have the common sense since they put their people out there on the street in fox holes and the like.../sigh

Yes, but I was speaking generally. If they had common sense and they get infected by being bitten, they'd use armour of some kind to prevent biting the actual flesh.

Edit: And cause he is from a small town; they probably only had standard riot gear: The head shield and the bullet proof vest. They eventually get full body armour when they take the prison.

They had full body armour on...which didn't do much when they were swarmed by the millions of Zeds from New York, who knocked the soldiers down, tore the armour apart and began to bite and eat them...and the whole helmet cam? That was transporting the images to all the other soldiers as was the radio which spread the panic even faster.
Later they developed a better version of the standard military armour, one which was built for Zed War.

Because he was trying to move fast and didn't want to obscure his view from the helmet? He'd only have to put the helmet on when he's not alone. ;) Besides, Kevlar isn't very heavy, comparably to many other armours. Spider silk is lighter still, and in some cases tougher, and would require you to probably go somewhere exotic or isolated, thus reducing the risk of zombies getting to you.

Again though, you said yourself the Generals didn't position the troops very well. That's
their
failure, much moreso than the armour's.
I love how seriously we're taking this. :D

Most kevlar isn't full body though; it just covers specific parts, which doesn't do much when you have a Z chewing on your arm. Look up at the edit as well heh.

And to be fair, you shouldn't be engaging zombies in hand to hand anyways; we can shoot, most versions of them can't after all lol.

Yes, but it's reducing the risk significantly.

But again, it's hard to get real body armour, unless you are a near a military base, a major city police station, or a prison. Yeah it helps, but then again, so does wearing tough clothing that's hard to tear and rip, or has some layers to it as well. Armour is more useful against something that is going to shoot at you or try to bash in your skull; zombies usually just swarm, knock a person to the ground, then peel the shell till they can eat the soft gooey inside.
Thought still, the best prevention to zombie bites and scratches? Get the hell away from any major population centers and find a spot where the Zeds aren't.
Edit: Also, wearing the armour can easily get you killed; you'll start feeling invincible if you kill zombies while wearing it, and may start heading out more and more often, actively hunting zombies instead of doing the smart thing and remaining out of sight and working to stay alive.

Armor could help in some situations... and hurt you in others. It hinders your movement, but not by much even wearing heavy riot gear you will still be faster than zombies. It wont really make you invincible though, imagine one zombie bites your arm and your wearing armor so it dosnt break the skin, thats great you survived but then that same zobie dosnt let go, so now you dont have use if your arm and it drags you to the ground, then more zombies swarm at you and they eventualy either peel away the armor or bite an exposed area.
IMO police or military armor would be a great asset, but it wouldnt make you invunerable.

Have you read the Zombie Suvival Guide, Patty? For all it's Failing of Biology Forever, it's got some good explanations for weaponry and armor and tactics.
Except for its recommendation of the AK-47. Great gun. No question. But good luck finding lots of 7.62×39mm ammo lying around in America or Western Europe.
If you live in Africa, the Middle East, or Eastern Europe, go for it. If you live in America or Britain, go for something that shoots a 5.56x45mm.

moderate
nerd. Or I'll keep telling myself that.

Honestly, if a zombie bites on to your arm and wont let go you're !@#$ed wether you're wearing armor or not, might as well wear armor in case it actually does let go.
Also I've just started reading I Am Legend, when I saw the movie I thought they were zombies but in the book it's very clear that they are vampires. A little strange how different the movie is.
Indeed, if a zombie starts biting your armoured arm, you've got time to get the gun/baseball bat/flamethrower/improbable weapon such as a nailfile through their braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaainnnnnnnnnnnnnnsssssssssssssssssssssss.
Well, not the gun through their brain, but you know.

Yup; and even then, only specific ones are vampires; the rest are Reinfeilds and the like as they clearly say that some of them are still alive....and the fact that the real vampire is a bacteria.....
And your dreams, as always, are strange Elura. But if you want to read a good zombie series, get a hold of Day by Day Armageddon; both of the books are excellent reads.
