A greater proportion of my posts have been in the Priest forum. Does this make me a superior being to you, Donny?
(This is, like, my seventh post ever in Off-Topic/Randomness)
I remember you from the priest forums. We talked years ago when I used to play wow, albeit briefly.

I'm sorry but only a deranged colonial would ever consider Australian beer to be better than the proper brown, flat stuff brewed in the mother country. I will however, be entirely reasonable and allow some of the exquisite Tasmanian real ales into the list of proper beer :P.
OT: Donny do you think that her Maj should be replaced as the head of state for Australia or do you enjoy the old links to us whinging Poms?

I would make one, but I won't.
Question: Have you ever been outside of Australia?

Wow, so many questions to answer, and I have a bus in 15 minutes! Great questions by the way, real meaty stuff so far; let's keep it this interesting and hopefully it will avoid the lockhammer!

XXXX, VB, Fosters or something else Donny? If I were to rank those three, it would go XXXX> VB> Fosters. Since I live in NSW, our "local" beer is actually Tooheys (although Tooheys is NZ owned now). My favourite Australian, non-premium beer is Carlton Draught. Carlton United Breweries also owns VB.
Us New South Welshmen like to joke that XXXX is called XXXX because Queenslanders' brains have been fried by all the sunlight up there and therefore they think that's how you spell beer. Which I think is really just a jealousy sign - there's a reason I'm moving up there!
Hum. How much of Forums Games posting contributed to your 5000 post count?
Probably about 2000-2500. Which is fine, because many of those forum games posts contained insights, subtle or otherwise, into the bloke behind the keyboard.

Do most australians drink more than average, or is that just a stereotype?
Yes and no.
Let's start by taking a look at these two Wikipedia pages:
List of countries by beer consumption per capita
- Australia rank 5.
List of countries by alcohol consumption
- Australia rank 44.
Now I do remember reading one time in Zoo Weekly that 90% of Australia's beer consumption is consumed by just 10% of the drinking population. You'll notice that's not the total population, just the drinking population. Which means there are a select few Australians who consume a whole lot of beer, contributing to the stereotype.
I'd say of the 10% who drink 90% of the beer, almost all of them would be working class, like myself. We consider it a part of our culture to drink, and I have often joked with my friend about the excuses we make to drink:
Crappy weather. What to do? Get drunk!
Beautiful weather. Let's go to the beach and get drunk!
Damn, the Bulldogs lost tonight. Might as well go drink our sorrows away.
The Bulldogs won. Let's go to the pub and celebrate!
No work today. Drink up!
Finished work. Let's go to the pub!
... you get the idea.
So no,
most
Australians dont drink more than average. However, there is a good percentage of population that are constantly drinking, and they usually band together and can be seen filling many a pub.
OT: Donny do you think that her Maj should be replaced as the head of state for Australia or do you enjoy the old links to us whinging Poms?As much as we like to pretend not to, I think most Anglo-Saxon Australians do enjoy the (tenuous) link to our past. Lizzie the Queen doesn't have any influence at all on our administration anyway, so it's not like it even matters in terms of running the country.
While I think the continued existence of the Royal Family is completely unnecessary, they're not going to go anywhere anytime soon. And, dare I say it, remaining a part of the Commonwealth is probably the only reason the country I live in isn't called the United States of Australia. Flame shield on!
I would make one, but I won't.
Question: Have you ever been outside of Australia? In 2002 I went to Bali for 8 days. I quite enjoyed it and would love to go again. I would actually love to spend my entire life travelling Australia and the world. I have always been the wayward soul, a trait which I would attribute to my disjointed childhood. I have long believed that
Wherever I May Roam
by Metallica is the song which most defines my life.

Why do you drink so much? This is not an easy question for me to answer, this is the best I could come up with for now.
I enjoy the taste of beer, wine, spirits and some liqueurs.
I love getting drunk.
Great way to relax after work, or stressful events.
It's a social thing, as explained in my previous post.
To kill time.
Escapism is a big one. It's like a memory reset button from whatever has happened during the day/week.
It makes me feel much more emotionally comfortable.
There's a macho aspect to it (who has the biggest tolerance, who is willing to do the most damage to themself, who can skull the fastest, etc).
I love to party. To me, partying has always been synonymous with getting drunk. I can't party without being drunk, to me that just misses the point of partying.
There's a thrill in how far can you take your drunkenness (how drunk can I be at work, how many time scan I drink-drive and get away with it, etc).
Helps to prepare me for something unpleasant that I know I'm about to deal with. For example, in 2008, when some bad friends I had at the time screwed me over and left me homeless, I moved in with my then-boss. He was cool, we're great mates to this day. However, the long-term GF he had at the time was an absolutely poisonous person (he agreed with me on this point of view), and I knew I could deal with her much more easily if I had 4 glasses of scotch under my belt.
When I was younger, alcohol was always out of reach. So I always wanted it. It was a "grass is always greener" situation, so when I was finally able to get my hands on it regularly, I went nuts.
I think I'm a more fun person when I'm drunk. It gets me out of my self-imposed shell.
Probably the reason for the above is because I think I have an inferiority complex. But since that's probably not something I should be self-diagnosing, I will simply say that I'm self-conscious. Alcohol helps break down that barrier, at least temporarily.
Again, tying in with the above, it makes me more confident with women. Of course, drunkenness is a pretty big turn-off to women, but there is a perfect balance to be found there somewhere.
I drink to celebrate or commiserate.
I possibly drink to dumb myself down. I have had my IQ tested quite a few times during my life, with the highest result being 177 when I was 12. I've always felt that people see me as a freak. Abusing my mind brings me down closer to the level of my peers. Why would I want to do this? Because honestly, most highly-intelligent people are pompous arseholes. I like average people more.
Let's face it, the main reason I drink so much is because I'm an alcoholic. However, I don't see my alcoholism as a problem (yet). I don't spend more than I can afford. It rarely affects my work and a hangover never lasts for more than half a day. However, I am certainly an alcoholic by several definitions.

Tooheys tastes a lot better than XXXX, however I'm still very partial to my superdrys and pure blonds. But Japanese beer is the greatest to drink, followed by proper german weizenbeir down at the snow.

XXXX exists? For some reason I always thought it was a myth, or something you guys made up to play with gullible non-Aussie minds, like drop bears. Gonna have to try that stuff someday.

Studies have shown that an IQ past 120 will not make a person more successful in life, since you claim to have a very high IQ, do you agree with this statement?
Does anyone besides you care?
