So, as some of the members of the RB know, I have picked up a copy of Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, or as it's better known, Dissidia 2. The game isn't a true sequel though, it's actually a prequel and reveals that the events of the first game were actually the 13th Wave; the 13 time that the Warriors of Cosmo and Chaos have warred.
Also, for those who enjoyed
Ehrgeiz, you may want to pick up these games if you have a PSP; I really think that was the proto type for the Dissidia series.
Warning, here be the Spoilers:
Though, really when you think about it, they aren't true spoilers, since Yuna, Kain, Laguna, Tifa, Vaan, and Lightning weren't in Dissidia 1(though, apparently, they wanted Lightning in the original but were worried it would take away from her appearance in FFXIII); and those who were were the survivors of the previous Wave....except for Sephiroth, who apparently committed suicide at the last moment, but I guess with just one FF7 villain, Chaos would bring him back again. At least the newbies go out with a bang, against an army of the Manikins; might be a downer ending but still...epic.
But the idea of the 12th Wave and the deaths of the new heroes got me thinking; has that been happening since the start? Was the original 1st Wave all of characters from the Final Fantasy universe fighting on one side or the other, as each Wave was completed, more and more died till we just end up with the final 22 in Wave 13(again, Dissidia 1)? These thoughts of course brought into the idea who would be on which side, who would end up switching sides(something we see in 012; Terra, Cloud, and Tidus start off as Chaos Warriors while Jecht is on the side of Cosmo), and so on.
For those other Summoners I am going to mention, it would mean some over lap of skills, but since the Chaos/Cosmos warriors already have that...not a huge thing; fighting with Yuna is a lot of fun, especially for the special attacks: Nothing like Summoning Aeons to destroy the enemy.
So....my own thoughts, and feel free to make choices, pick at the ones I choose, and add your own.
Final Fantasy: It would still be Warrior of Light(a combination of the 6 Legendary Warriors in one) for Cosmos, attempting to lead the rag tag army of the Light, with Garland and the 'fake' Chaos on the side of Darkness.
Final Fantasy II: For Cosmos army, the obvious choice is still Firion, but joining him in the first Wave would have been his allies from his world:
Maria and
Guy, while joining the Emperor on Chaos side would be
Leon.
Final Fantasy III: The obvious choice is still
Onion KnightLuneth, but he would be joined by his fellow Warriors of Light from the DS remake;
Arc,
Refia and
Ingus backing him up against the Cloud of Darkness for Chaos.
Final Fantasy IV: Now, to the meat of the game. For the first Wave I really do see Dark Knight Cecil on the side of the Chaos Warriors, serving alongside his brother Golbez, Kain and possibly a humanoid form of Zeromus(since Chaos and Cloud of Darkness ended up with those), thought at some point, you would unlock the Paladin form of Cecil and join up with the Cosmos forces, probably thanks to the help of Rosa. As for the Cosmos side, other then Rosa, Rydia(with possibly a split form for her, one for the child version and one for the adult), Edge, Yang and Cid would end up as main fighters, while Tellah, Porom, Palom, Fusoya and Edward(the spoony bard) would be Assist fighters only(such as Aerith is in D012). Unfortunately, most of the Destiny Odyssey stories would be the same, since nearly all of them would be working at freeing Cecil from the darkness.
The hidden character for Final Fantasy IV would have been
Ceodore Harvey of course.
Final Fantasy V: Unfortunately, it would still just be Exdeath and Gilgamesh for the Chaos side still, but the Cosmos side would get some new recruits. Bartz would remain as the main one from FFV, with
Lenna and
Faris(who could possibly be used to play some evil jokes on some characters) as his back up. For Assist characters, I could see
Galuf and
Krile being the obvious choices.
Final Fantasy VI: Ah....now we get to the good stuff. Chaos side would start out with Kefka and Terra for definite, as poor Terra has been back and forth between the sides for a long time. For Cosmos, the obvious starters are Locke, Celes, Edgar, Sabin, Strago, Relm, and Cyan with other characters ending up able to go either way. Shadow would end up fighting for either side, with Interceptor as a special attack buddy for him, depending on who pays his bills. Gau could end up fighting for either side, since his special attacks usually caused him to go berserk. An extra would be General Leo; he could start off as a Chaos warrior and possibly change sides to Cosmos at some point. As for Mog, Umaro and Gogo, I see the three of them in the position of Assist characters.
Final Fantasy 7 and surrounding games: Well, the Warriors of Cosmos are obvious in this game; Barret, Cid, Tifa, Red XIII, and Cloud. For Chaos I see Sephiroth of course, but he would be joined by Hojo,
Kadaj,
Yazoo, and
Loz. For the neutrals, those who could change from one side to the other, I think the Turks; Tseng, Elena, Reno and Rude, would be the perfect choices, as would Yuffie and Vincent; Yuffie working for Materia and Vincent starting as a Chaos member then defecting to Cosmos side after Hojo is revealed to be a main enemy. As for the Assists, that would still be Aerith and I would also think Cait Sith would be a good choice as well. And because people still want him in the game, Zack would be another Assist character; which would make for some good combos between Cloud and him heh.
The
Tsviets from Dirge of Cerberus would be unlockable characters, and there for the fun of it.
Final Fantasy VIII: One of my personal favorites, and one I would love to see more characters appear in the Dissidia universe. Anyways, on to the sides! Cosmos side is fairly simple and expected; Squall, Rinoa(with Angelo fighting alongside her like Interceptor would for Shadow), Zell, Selphie, Quistis, and Irvine going up against an expanded Chaos Army. The main of course, would still be Ultimecia, but backing her up would be Adel and Edea, with Seifer, Fuijinn and Raijinn rounding out the other side. Laguna would still be there, and Ward and Piros would be unlockable characters. I would like to see Ellone as an Assist character to off set the Time Magic that Ultimecia can use.
Final Fantasy IX: Getting there, slowly. Anyways, Cosmos Warriors are again, obvious; Zidane, Dagger/Garnet, Eiko, Steiner, Vivi and Freya, who would be facing off against Kuja(with a summonable White Dragon this time). The neutrals would more then likely be Amarant(who wants to defeat Zidane), General Beatrix(play the game, you'll know why) and the bounty hunter
Lani(who was hunting Vivi at one point). The Assist characters would be Quina and Blank. I wish I could put
Mikoto in somewhere..but even though she is Zidane and Kuja's replacement, we don't see her ever actually attack.
Final Fantasy X/X-2: Again, the Cosmos side is fairly obvious; Yuna, Rikku, Wakka, Lulu and Kimahri against Seymour as the main villain instead of Jecht this time. The four neutrals would be Tidus(serves Chaos in 012 at first after all), Jecht himself, Auron(partnered with Jecht for a lot of the Destiny Odyssey) and Payne. For an unlockable, I would like to see Yojimbo as the main choice; he's my favorite summon in X, with maybe Lebanc as a second one, and would use Dress Spheres for her attacks. Honestly, the three main 'antagonist' of X-2; Baralai, Nooj and Gippal, don't really fit into the Dissidia world and could be left out or turned into Assist characters.
Final Fantasy XI:.....Um, other then Shantatto and Prishe, don't know much sorry. Anyone who can add in 'heroes' of the game please do.
Final Fantasy XII: For XII, you have a few interesting choices for either side. For Chaos, other then the traitor judge Gabranth, I would also like to see the smiling psycho Vayne Solider, and of course, the only 'evil'
Cid(well so far((I swear, he could have given Kefka a run for his money....))) and the other traitor, Vossler, joining the 'evil' side. For Cosmos, Vaan, Ashe, and Basch are the obvious choices. The neutrals would be the dashing sky pirate Balthier and his bunny lady mate Fran. The Assists would be Penelo, Reks and Larsa. For the unlockable, I wouldn't mind the other sky pirate, Reddas.
Final Fantasy XIII: Alright, other then Lightning...I need help with this section too. Those who have played the game, feel free to let me know who would be good on Chaos, Cosmos and the Neutral side. So from Patty, sounds like another Cosmos warrior would end up being Snow, while Fang and Vanille could be on either side depending on what would happen to the other. As for Chaos, the main two would be Barthandalus and Orphan.
Final Fantasy Tactics: I know the chance of this ever happening is slim to known but I still feel the need to add it in. For Cosmos Ramza, Mustadio, and Agrias would be the starters of course. For Chaos, Delita and the
Lucavi(who would transform into their demon forms for their Limits) would be the primary evils in that universe. The three main neutrals would be Meliadoul, who would start off as a member of Chaos(serving her Father), and the twin assassins Rapha and Marach who would also be ex-members of the Lucavi. The non-playable assists for this one would be
Ovelia and
Orran/Olan.
Anyways, enjoy.
