Anyone else excited for this MMO?
Didn't see a topic for it anywhere, so figured I'd make one.
For those who don't know, Tera is an MMO coming out late 2011 (hopefully). The game itself will be an action-rpg styled MMO. Think WoW, except you can't select what you are attacking, and you have to physically aim, block, dodge, etc. So, as opposed to gear-based gameplay, the gameplay looks to be purely skill based. Can't find a tank? Think you are skilled enough at dodging? Go take on that dungeon with 4 dps and a healer.
I kinda like the concept. So, again, anyone else looking forward to this?

Sounds like...
Crap. It was released in 2010 I believe, and it was really broken.

I was released in Korea in January of this year, and the English version is currently in development.
I think the unique targeting mechanism could go a long way to making an MMO more engaging, but I'd have to actually get my hands on it to see how it actually works before I could actually say it's a good idea.

The only hands-on so far have been from sites like IGN, and they have all said the combat system was "fun."
But, combat system doesn't exactly make a game, so am hoping that it is successful in other fields as well. Can't really tell anything yet from the minute amount of details they have been releasing.

In a game where you're meant to spend 20 hours a week fighting things, you better bet that combat makes or breaks the game.

Was more talking about content there, but yeah, I guess in an MMO, the combat system is the more important part (and I am liking this combat system!)
But if the content is horrid, the game won't make it very far either. Same goes for overall balance.

Huh, hsr you didn't get realesed until 2010? Where were the matrix overlords keeping you?
On topic. It sounds great in theory. In practice it would probably be very tedious though. Until we have accurate motion sensor gloves and stuff available for wholsale, this type of game is probably going to tank.

This topic is about Tera Online though, a fantasy MMO that looks pretty fun actually.

Yeah, who the hell plays
first person shooters
without accurate motion sensor full body suits with VI and motion capture and a teleport device. We do not have the technology yet to develop games with dynamic targetting that would not be tedious.

As the release date for the game draws near, I'm necroing this thread. Is there anyone else besides me that's remotely interested in the game? I got into the beta last weekend and it was a blast! Having to aim with your spells makes leveling more fun for me. All the features in this game including different territories that can be under the control of an elected player? Awesome :D
And I think I read something about guild housing. To see that return to a current MMO? Beautiful. ;_;

I've seen plenty of Elin named ChrisHansen already. Though the one I liked the most was "ElinDegeneres."

Still interested in it myself.
Played the beta and loved it. But with GW2 right around the corner, and now D3 only a few months away...
Argh, too many big games once.

It's worth noting that TheOnyx works for TERA now (former site director and all around good guy), so if you try it out, you indirectly support him :3

BF played the beta. He said that he really liked the combat system, but he wished it was in a better game, if that makes sense. I'm sure he'll be along to elaborate on it.
I took a look at the character creator screen. I thought the animal people were funny. I find it disturbing that for the race of females that look like junior high kids, there wasn't more than one or two classes where you couldn't see their panties. I think it's one thing to have kid-like models to appeal to a certain audience, and quite another to have kid-like models in their underwear and lingerie. That kind of left a bad taste in my mouth about the game.

I'd agree with what ElhonnaDS is saying here. The combat system is interesting but I was unclear how it would expand as I levelled into something deep and enjoyable (though perhaps it does, I only got to about level 13). However the game itself and the world didn't capture my imagination. I'm not sure I can go back to clicking accept on boxes containing quest text I found myself immediately just clicking without reading and following the quest tracker to tell me where to go.
The precocious female child race is certainly discomforting (and probably discomfiting) but I personally found that a problem much more on the character create screen than in game. I made a tank of that race and quite enjoyed the juxtaposition of the tiny tank but I could certainly have lived without them being sexualised in the way they were. The main character I played was the weird furry race which I rather liked - they're wacky without any of the creep factor that furry races can have in other games.
It's not a game I'll be playing but I was glad to see the directions in which it is innovating. I understand why people call ToR a ripoff but I think they were innovating heavily in terms of story and cut-scene stuff and probably chose to keep to convention for combat and character progression. I would have liked for them to have innovated more in those areas too and I think Tera demonstrates a way in which combat could move in future.
