When did Wowhead General become such a horrible forum?

See the guy above me? He's like Wikipedia. Full of useful information and words you can have nightmares trying to understand as a non-native English speaker.
My English is at a level equivalent to native, and I don't know half the words he uses. My best guess is he's either a linguistics professor/student or spends a lot of time checking the synonyms section of dictionary.com to make himself sound superior. Don't worry about it ;)
Really? He's never used a word I haven't read. I've really never felt like his posts were purposefully overly complicated linguistically.
You live in an overeducated (imo) country like Germany? =P
Nope. The opposite, actually. Louisiana. Though to be fair I'm not from here/
`stu-ie,
If one person says something? Meh, it's not worth giving weight to. Everyone's got an opinion on something, and we all know what they say about opinions.
Two people say the same thing? Possibly means something, then, but again it's only a couple people, so whatever.
When dozens of people say the same thing? Pay attention, there's probably something to it.
BTW: He's not wrong about you.
There's a word for this. It's called groupthink. In essence, you're advocating demagoguery.
The majority can be wrong. Sometimes one man really does have the right answer. The world at large isn't the high school quad and reality isn't determined by consensus.
Implied in your viewpoint is that attempting to figure out the truth of things for oneself is an exercise in futility because no one individual or opinion can ever be right about anything.
Dodge
Actually... no. Aetsu makes a perfectly valid point. If your
only
argument is that everyone disagrees with him, then you don't know that everyone isn't just wrong.
Now, 99% of the time, when a whole community thinks something and one person thinks something else, that one person is not quite picking up on something. However, until you tell us what that is, you have no real argument.

...The official WoW forums and tolerance for trolls that shill for Blizzard is a really good example of this. A real life example is the young white girl who goes 80 MPH on a 35 MPH rode then just smiles at the cops and gets let off every time...
This is a terrible example. Breaking the speed limit =/= breaking forum rules. You can't kill yourself or someone else by breaking forum rules. *facepalm*
@OP Wowhead is a lot bigger than it used to be, which is a good thing. However, there are quite a few people who like to act directly like moderators when they aren't and don't use the report feature, which is bad.

And just to bring a small example, lo and behold, this very thread.
He made a legitimate post and someone threw a hissy fit because of who he was. Every once in a while I kind of wish we could ban everybody BUT Aetsu.

How long does it usually take to get a reply from Blizzard? I've been waiting in 4 days now (if saturday and sunday counts) for a reply about my suspended account.
We are not teh Blizz. Teh Blizz has forums too.
What was the value in this post?
I don't mean to attack you in particular, but why did you post this?
(My questions here aren't rhetorical.)
What I meant was that Teh Blizz probably has more information about the waiting time of the tickets people make for them.

You think Aestu isn't aware of how he comes across or the abrasive nature of his posts?
Do you think I am not aware of the nature of some of my posts?
Nobody is in denial, This is just another internet forum with people we couldn't give a crap about.
We reply because we have an opinion, or because ignorance annoys us, or because we have nothing better to do and believe it or not even sometimes to help.
People post because they think they are right, Aestu is just better at it than most.
A communicator who relays the correct information, but in such an abrasive fashion that many will ignore the message because of the rude nature of the phrasing, is not an effective communicator. A man with Tourette's could be a genius, but don't expect him to be an effective teacher or advisor on the subject, because he will be a poor communicator.
I agree that in many cases, Aestu provides valid information. The way the information is presented, however, shows that he is not a diplomatic communicator. That is a fault when your premise is to relay information in such a way so that the listener is willing to accept it. If you're simply posting in order to see your own pretty words in electrons, then that's fine - but I really don't believe that's the case here.
You can give an opinion and think you are right without being an #$%^&*! about it.
Thank you for the TLDR version. ;)

Good question, too bad that the thread exactly is showing what the OP is asking. Intolerance, short fuses and everybody feeding each other.
(I liked the link with the tv guy though =P)
Requested lock because in the end, it's going nowhere...

Incited a lot of hatred in everybody.
I literally hate anybody whose username begins with an 'A'. As soon as I see it, I think it's going to be that person, and I die a little.
That's not the only reason why.

I liked the veiled post count insult....beyond that; wow, this proved him/her right fairly quickly.

In my experience, discretionary approaches and selective enforcement are fundamentally unjust. Rules should be enforced consistently, not selectively, because using one's discretion as to when to enforce and not enforce rules is, in effect, a sop for one's own biases.
I'm fairly certaint that I'm as consistent as I can be, taken my non-superhuman memory and the fact that every single thread is different into consideration. Point being, a lot of moderation-actions are case by case things - not something that can be put into boxes, which may cause what some see as inconsistency. Should it happen that it gets totally off, do feel free to contact about it.
Without intending to patronize you, I honestly don't agree. It's simply not that hard to read all posts and threads if you can read at a decent pace, nor does it require more than perhaps 15-30m a day to do so. But then again, I can read exceptionally fast.
If you look at it that way, I probably
could
read all topics if I wanted - but I, like many other forum goers, don't read a thread by intuition unless I find it interesting and/or feel I can make a good contribution.
Question, Gnub, what's your day job?
Haha, that's one I didn't expect to pop up :P I'm still a student (computer science), so I only work part-time. I've probably been in the "service"-sector of things for... erh, around 10 years, the latter 5 involving me sitting in front of a computer. However, I do sneak in here from time to time, as I - incredible as it might seem - find moderating here a good way to relax. It's my voluntary hobby, and I like contributing to the community this way - or simply by posting.
I think that Wowhead would be best served by introducing a rule that EJ has had for a while: playing moderator, making predictions about threads being locked, or accusing other posters of infractions, is itself actionable, as are useless posts that consist only of memes or links to meme images/videos/rickrolls etc.
I agree at a certain point, which is why I - once again - hope people will use the report feature more often, so that things like that are actually spotted. It is annoying, both for us and the other users, no doubt.
Now, I hope this thread can actually stay on track, as it seems that the discussion has changed focus.
