Scorch has a similar crit, if not more on live today. Except we don't spam scorch because it doesn't scale as well compared to Fireball. Haste also affects Fireball a lot better than scorch as it changes the cast time by more. A primary nuke is what we spam to make the procs. Not the other way around.
Fireball will still be our main nuke. And the rotation will be similar to our rotation on live. The only difference is we cast out Flame Orb once a minute. Flame Orb damage is based around single target, and will do a quite a bit of damage, if you get other mobs, that's just icing on the cake. (And if we get a talent/glyph so that it explodes like it was originally planned, that's even better).
For AoE, it'll probably be the same as it is still. Except maybe we use Flame Orb/FFO as well.
Flame Orb will be like Flamestrike. You cast it and forget about it. The only problem with Flame Orb is that it has a very long cooldown.
Frost rotations will be:
FB spam. If BF procs cast FFB. If FoF procs IL/DF. If BF and FoF proc. FoF first (IL/DF or IL/IL) then FFB. Brainfreeze doesn't have a cooldown (I don't think) where has FoF does. Also. FFB has a chance to proc FoF because of the chilling effect. And some FFO thrown in as well during the FB spam.

How flame orb will work. And all I can say is that it's pretty badass. If you also look closely, it explodes at the end aswell. I think Blizzard have put the explosion effect in as part of the spell regardless. Take a look. :P

awesome. Thanks for that. I'm glad they put the explosion in it, it makes it a lot better. And I love how the speed of it changes when it hits something.

Pretty cool. 1.5 second cast, and if you're frost, the thing snares everything it hits.

How is scorch's crit compared to other fire spells in live today?

How is scorch's crit compared to other fire spells in live today?
+9% on live compared to the +20% in cata. (okay, a bigger deal than I thought)
However the +Damage on every other spell in fire still does not make it worth it (from what I can tell).
Fireball has a +6% damage compared to Scorchs +0%. Fireball scales much better with SP than scorch. Either way, I don't think Scorch can be a nuke.
What I would really like to see, and I wish I still had an active account to post some suggestions, is to have a talent in frost that is something like "All talents that affect Frostbolt now affect Frostfire bolt. However Frostfire bolt can no longer be used from Brain Freeze (or something to that affect)" It makes certain abilities like Early Frost, Piercing Chill, Enduring Chill be useable in a Frostfire build. It would be pretty awesome.
Another talent I'd like to see would be something from fire that caused fire DoT's to affect nearby mobs. I think there was a talent in a previous build that was similar to it, can't remember. Would make for some nice AoE damage (not that fire really needs it). It would also make that the talent Pyromaniac very useful and possible to do. As long as the dots didn't move to mobs who are polymorphed or CC'd.
Oh well, i think I could go on for hours about my dream talents, but i'll save that for another time.

Quoted from Kavan from the official forums:
Quick preview of upcoming fire changes (talents are from left to right, *denotes a change to the talent):
Tier 1:
*Master of Elements: now 2 ranks at 15/30%
Burning Soul
*Incineration: removed
*Improved Fire Blast: moved from tier 2
Tier 2:
Ignite
*Fire Power: Increases the damage of your Fire spells by 1/2/3% and gives your Flame Orb a 33/66/100% chance to explode at the end of its duration.
Blazing Speed
Impact (no useful raid utility yet... awesome ideas welcome)
Tier 3:
*Cauterize (new, 2 ranks): You have a 50/100%% chance that an attack which would otherwise kill you will instead bring you to 40% of your maximum health. However, you will burn for 12% of your maximum health every second for the next 4 sec. This effect cannot occur more than once per minute.
*Blast Wave: A wave of flame radiates outward from the target location, damaging all enemies caught within the blast for X Fire damage and are slowed by 75% for 3 sec.
*Molten Shields (new 1 rank, Blazing Speed is a prereq): Reduces the global cooldown of your Mage Ward spell by 1.5 sec and your Mage Ward triggers the Blazing Speed effect when it dissipates from absorbing damage.
*Improved Scorch: Reduces the mana cost of your Scorch spell by 50/100%
Tier 4:
Pyromaniac
Combustion
*Hot Streak (the instant Pyroblast no longer costs mana)
*Firestarter (new, 1 rank): Your Molten Armor allows you to cast the Scorch spell while moving instead of reducing the chance you are critically hit.
Tier 5:
Improved Flamestrike
Dragon's Breath
Molten Fury
Tier 6:
*Critical Mass: Your Pyroblast and Scorch spells have a 33/66/100% chance to cause your target to be vulnerable to spell damage, increasing spell critical strike chance against that target by 5% and lasts 30 sec.
Tier 7:
Living Bomb
Holy crap, Fire just got incredibly mobile

watchout Fire pvp. WIth imp. Blink and Firestarter, it'll be a non stop kitefest.
If blastwave doesn't have a cast time it'll be extremely effective in pvp too. So many good things for fire coming up next week.

There's just been a new revision of the talent trees with the
12644
beta build, which happens to move some Frost talents around and maybe a few other talents (Haven't looked that closely at it yet) but what I can see is the tier 1 talent that reduces the mana cost of spells has moved somewhere else (Or been deleted, I've only glanced at the Fire and Arcane trees). I will be posting the new talent calculator links and removing useless information. Gimme some time. :P

They still somehow have to add +10% spellpower buff for fire mages (and 6 for non fire mages), but this looks great for fire.
I'm not sure, but I think the 6% will be via Arcane Intellect (with Int giving SP in Cata).

Will be updating the main post shortly by moving over quite a bit of information from other sites and also updating the new specializations. Yes, they are more exciting than flat damage increases. I guess they were just placeholders. (This also serves as a bump, just don't tell anyone. :P)

Excuse me for sounding like an idiot, but I missed the notes when they said you could move and cast Scorch. Anyone care to link me to the page? :O

we will be able to cast scorch while moving but Blast wave is nerfed :
Blast Wave: A wave of flame radiates outward from the target location, damaging all enemies caught within the blast for X Fire damage and are slowed by 75% for 3 sec
no knockback, slow instead of dazze and only for 3 sec
Note that it says "target" location. Having it be target-able, and knockback might just be a tad too OP

I'm a little confused by the frost tree (in PVE).
There have been 2 talents that seem to have no use : Ice Shards and Piecing Chill.
These two talents Chill's but, with the refund of FoF, there's no Shatter Combo.
So, what use for these two ?
Ice Shard > AOE grinding but no use in raid, and Ice Lance up to 40 yards for 2 points is no the cheapest.
Piercing Chill > increased rate for FoF (3 targets chill = 3x15%) ? Great for 5 players but occasionnal in raid.
Meaby, the will have utility that I'vent see.
And I've another stupid idae, what if we include FFB in the rotation ? like alternate FB/FFB if no proc ?
PS> please, don't mind my spelling. I'm French.

It's looking bad guys. There have been a lot of nerfs in the now applied 12694 Beta Build. One of the major changes being the change to Time Warp (The Mage Heroism) which now doesn't give the caster the 30% movement buff. This is probably a result of all of the Shaman QQs on the forum. Will be updating the main post in a bit to reflect the new changes, but Wowhead is acting up recently and so it might take a little while to get the updates in.

Piercing Chill may also double/triple the chance of Brain Freeze to proc, as well as Fingers of Frost. And although it may not affect many single bosses, it may work extremely well on any boss where there are multiple targets.
As for Frostfire bolt, it may just be a very power proc spell, like Pyroblast. If it's still considered a Frost spell as well (I don't think it is) It may also be able to proc Brainfreeze. Thus if very lucky, you can spam it, doing major damage. Frostfirebolt can also proc FoF due to the chilling effect. So you'll be doing a lot of damage if lucky.
I don't see how losing the 30% speed on Time warp is a nerf. It's getting rid of a useless spell that may cause us to want to use when we're in trouble, not when the raid actually wants the Time warp.
Cauterize is extremely handy, and Fire is still up in the air and is planned to have a lot of work done to it. One thing that has changed, but no one really noticed is, that the Abarr tool tip no longer says that it doesn't use up the AB stacks. Which could cause a problem, and make arcane rotations exactly the same as they are today.
Either way, the sky is not falling.
