It's really down to the individual as to how they feel comfortable playing the game imo, though as svall3 mentioned, modifier macro's will help reduce clutter and free up mouse space. Being able to turn with the mouse is really important in my opinion - it lets you avoid attacks with positional requirements (i.e gouge, backstab, ambush etc) and is useful for sudden direction changes following an ice block.
I personally try to avoid using any key past my "6" key - it's just too slow and cumbersome for me. Here's a quick run down of my keybinds (anything with two spell names has a shift modified macro instead of a regular button).
1 - fire blast
2 - invis
3 - spellsteal
4 - trinket
5 - Blink
6 - Arcane Explosion
E - Frostbolt/Ice Lance
Q - counterspell target/counterspell focus
R - Pet/Pet Freeze
T - Ice Barrier/Mana Shield
F - Deep Freeze Target/ Deep Freeze focus
G - Ice Block
H - Set Focus/ Set new focus
V - Frost Nova
C - Sheep Target/Sheep Focus
X - Frostfire Bolt/ Rank 1 Frost Bolt
Z - Cold Snap
\ - Cone of Cold
I use side buttons on my mouse for Blizzard and the belf racial - everything else is default. Anything not listed is clicked on my action bars. WASD are my run/strafe keys. This is the setup I've been running with for a couple of months and I feel really comfortable with it now. I tend to sheep using mouse clicks on gladius until we go for a kill, then the macro keybind really pays off in most situations. Decursing is done with mouse clicks on grid, though I could probably find space for it on the keyboard if needed. Play around with your keybinds and see what your most comfortable with - it might take you a few matches to get used to new keybinds so make sure you give them a chance before heading back to what you had before.
Hope this helps!

Even shorter :)
@Atremini:
Why frostbolt rank 1 on mousewheel? Don't have a high level mage, so I can't really figure out why you would cast rank 1? For a faster snare?
