By your logic - nothing should be rare, and RNG should be removed from the game. Good luck with that..../facepalm
The original post (and subsequent arguments) merely suggest that it should be less rare, not un-rare. Putting words in someone's mouth, and then arguing against it, is just stupid - you might as well argue with someone else entirely.
I agree with the OP, the battered hilt probably doesn't drop enough. I've seen it drop once (maybe 100 ICC5s by now, give or take). It doesn't make much sense from a game design point of view - they have opened up the content for everyone to try. The questline is content. It's not some random rare item that you just obtain (polar bear mount et al). It's lore driven plot and objectives, which extend the life of the 5-man ICC content. It's the equivalent of, for example, if the
leaf
had a drop rate of 1%, or otherwise could be bought for 2000g.
I understand there is an
obvious
rebuttal
to the above statement, but that one's more of a guild effort - it's not really just the MT getting the joy out of it.

I really miss the abilitie to downrate on the forums :o
How can someone QQ about not beeing able to do EVERYTHING in a game without a tiny bit of effort?
IRL references:
You can't buy that new couch if you don't make any money!
You can't expect to run a marathon without training first
Ergo: You can't expect to get everything without doing something to accomplish that!
And that is part of this game, if you dislike it, then find another game where you just get everything, but as long as you wan't to play mmorpg's, there are som basic principles that you need to understand -.-

No difference between the Hilt drop and the Blue Proto-Drake, the Green-drake from the egg, the Polar Bear from the Hyldnir dailies(been working on that one for almost 6 months now), or any of the other rare mounts/items/pets what have that exist in the game.
Actually, the difference between the hilt, and the Blue Proto, Green Proto, the Polar Bear, or any othe rare mounts and pets are...
The sword can be upgraded, the mounts and pets are BoP. I think more people appreciate how rare the pets and mounts can be, versus a weapon that can be upgraded easily, and gives you a quest line. It's not a legendary weapon, although if it WAS a legendary weapon, I would totally understand the rare drop rate and the cost of the hilt. But it's just an epic sword that can be upgraded. Mounts and pets are on a different level then weapons you can get, then store in your bank because you found an upgrade the next time you were in a pug or guild run.
Aye, but I was talking drop rate wise heh. And honestly, I get more use out of the mounts then the Hilt weapon heh.
Edit; weird, the quote doesn't seem to be working....

My two cents.
Learning how to play the AH is not hard. I started with 4,000 gold that I made from grinding daily quests. I went from 4,000 to 12,000 in about two weeks. It would have been more, but I blew a bunch making Merlin's Robes and Bejeweled Wizard Bracers for my up and coming priest alt.
8,000 gold in two weeks. No, I did not camp the AH. I check it maybe twice a day, once in the morning, and once at night.
I don't mean to rub salt on the wound, but I got my Hilt the very first time I ran Forge of Souls (day two of patch 3.3) ... from the very first mob we killed. I had been unable to win a raid weapon thanks to Blizzards FU rolls since Life and Death from Naxx 25.
I deserved it.
You can cry about it or you can either A) Keep running the 5 man using guildies willing to let you have it or B) Grind the gold to buy it from the AH.
Your call.

It is faster to farm the gold. Just because you assume gold farming means spending nine hours a day non stop for a month does not mean it's true. Gold farming is even better suited to a casual player than farming the dungeons the hilt actually drops from. A couple hours a day and you'll have it much quicker than trying to farm the drop.

Person who has picked the slowest method of obtaining this item says: This item takes too long to obtain!
