This is Me
You'll notice that I have the 2T9 bonus set, I245 gloves+I232 helm. This is my predicament. I now have enough emblems of frost to purchase a second T10 piece, and the biggest upgrade is my helm. But that will break my set bonus.
I also just got
these leggings
, so getting the T10 legs would be such a small upgrade it would be a waste. So that leaves me with the shoulders, but again, the upgrade is super small, so I'm not sure it's the right choice.
So should I stick with bonuses right now and get the T10 shoulders, or get the biggest upgrade and get the T10 helm?

Buy your shoulders, save your badges and hope you luck into you gloves via VoA, and (if such luck does not prevail) buy the helm and gloves together when you've saved 155 frosts.

Hey Les, it has been a long time :D New job= less wow time, so wowhead had to get cut :( Sanctified gear is not in my new future, we had a huge number of our hardcore raiders leave so we're rebuilding, our 25 raid can only down Marrowgar at the moment. So 10 is my only option.
Right now I'm not worried about hit gear, did you see how much I have? 400! Now when I equip my new legs it will drop down quite a bit, but I'll still be over 300.
When I got the T10 chest piece it was because I only had the T9 232 one, so it was the biggest upgrade. (That's usually how I choose new gear).
So I'm buying the shoulders, and farming VoA....wish me luck :(

AH! Ok, now what do I do?
These
dropped for me the other day in 25 man, and since I was the only spellpower leather wearing toon, I could not let these be disenchanted.
But my tier set plan is all messed up. If I wear those gloves, then there won't be a need to get my T10 gloves, so to get my T10 4 piece bonus (eventually) I'll either have to get gloves or legs (helm is inevitable). Will it be better to wear these gloves and get T10 legs? (Even though I already have badass legs :() ? Or keep my legs and only use these gloves for my healing set and get my T10 gloves?

Kath one small correction on an otherwise very very good post.
1575.5 - Int/3
May have been a typo but that is the Crit softcap calc :P
Edit: Also worth noting that the int number there is the int that shows up in your armory profile and/or should be completely unbuffed and out of form int from your char sheet.
Edit2: Also worht noting that when you hit the soft caps on haste/crit they are still more powerful then Spirit.

I have to say I'm a little taken back Kath. I've never been told I don't know how to gear my boomkin. When really, the only thing I've done in all of your scenarios is sacrifice some crit, which I knew I was doing. According to your own priority rating,In general: Hit(to cap)->SP->Haste(401 softcap)->Crit(~1375 - int/3 softcap)->Spirit->Int->mp5/stam/AP/ArP. When you're softcapped on a either haste or crit, the value about halves. I'm gearing my boomkin just fine, and actually your suggestions were wrong. With the exception of the Ony cape (and trust me I've been trying to get rid of my cloak for months), all the other gearing suggestions are incorrect. And here's why.
I would also recommend the dagger from Ony even though it has mp5. Farm H HoR daily for the heart
I don't think the Wowhead tool can combine a main hand with an offhand to compare to something else so I'll put up the stats.
Ony Dagger (25)
+
Shriveled Heart
= 92 INT, 97 CRIT and 768 Spellpower
Compared to what I have
Abracadaver
=128 INT and 784 Spellpower.
Yes I lose crit, but gain SP and INT. Plus the extra damage done by my minion (compare this to the
Nibelung
, which many are listing as near BiS for casters.) So why would I downgrade?
Getting rid of those pants should be a priority. The best "easy to get" ones I can think of are from ToC 25, also puggable.
Next is
ToC25 Pants
you mentioned vs.
My "badass pants"
.
Here's the Comparison
Once again, the only thing I lose is crit. Thank god I lose hit rating, as you mentioned I'm already over capped, why would I add another 82? I gain in spirit, haste, int and gain a socket. How are the ToC pants better again?
Farm H HoR daily for the ...
belt
Then we have the
H HoR belt
vs
Belt of Pale Thorns
.
Comparison
. Wow, all I really lose is crit....and
gain in everything else
...like spellpower, which even according to you is my number 1 priority.
This still leaves my crit around 23% unbuffed and out of form, which puts me around 30% self buffed and in form. And I really don't think that spirit should be
avoided
. No it shouldn't be geared for (which I haven't, just happens to be on gear that gets handed to me), but it should not be avoided...It adds mana regen (more innervates for other people, less talent points spent on mana regen talents, less mana pots used, less down time in between fights) and it adds spellpower. It's not a BAD stat.
Didn't mean to sound like a B*tch, but I hate being told I'm wrong when I'm not.

Gems should always be +23 SP apart from 2 +12 sp and +10 spirit gems to activate your Meta gem. A bonus should never be socketed for unless it is worth upwards of 7 sp.
Yellow sockets in 232 gear and up should always be gemmed with a Veiled, Reckless or Potent(dependant on need). The socket bonus, at these ilvl, is always SP and it is always in sufficient amount to tip the balance towards the orange gems :P
Blue sockets is where the number gets that high and I think it is still 8 SP for it to tip the balance for a blue socket.
@Gemily - most of comments come down to this:
TL/DR: Dont stack haste or crit over the other, stack both at the same time.
Weapon comparison wise:
Ony Dagger (25)
+
Shriveled Heart
= 92 INT, 97 CRIT and 768 Spellpower
Compared to what I have
Abracadaver
=128 INT and 784 Spellpower.
You fall into the category of haste capped but not hit capped. you are short of the crit cap by ~450 crit rating.
Abracadaver
:
SP - 773 * 1.68 = 1,298.64
Crit - 0
Haste - 142 * 1.04 = 147.68
Int - 128 * .64 = 81.92
Spirit - 10 * .64 = 6.4
Total - 1534.64
Honed Fang of the Mystics
+
Shriveled Heart
:
SP - 762 * 1.68 = 1280.16
Crit - 97 * 1.2 = 116.4
Haste - 50 * 1.04 = 52
Int - 92 * .64 = 58.88
Spirit - 0
Total - 1507.44
Yes the staff is stronger overall. The thing with the staff would be the wasted hit as we can get hit easily from the ring and glove/pants with a minute amount of gemming left over. Weapon is just a bad place to take hit as a main spec.
As for the pants:
Leggings of the Deepening Void
:
SP - 182 *1.68 = 305.76
Crit - 82 * 1.2 = 98.4
Haste - 0
Int - 103 * .64 = 65.92
Spirit - 10 * .64 = 6.4
Total - 476.48
Leggings of the Awakening
:
SP - 182 * 1.68 = 305.76
Crit - 74 * 1.2 = 88.8
Haste - 90 * 1.04 = 93.6
Int - 103 * .64 = 65.92
Spirit - 10 * .64 = 6.4
Total - 560.48
Leggings of the unrelenting Blood
:
SP - 187 * 1.68 = 314.16
Crit - 10 * 1.2 = 12
Haste - 72 * 1.04 = 74.88
Int - 109 * .64 = 69.76
Spirit - 114 * .64 = 72.96
Total - 543.76
As you can see those ToC crit/haste pants rank in as better then the ICC haste/spirit pants for you. Not by a lot but you can see the power of crit/haste when they beat out something that is a half tier higher. These half tier calc's can be a pain but are important.
Kilt of Untreated Wounds
:
SP - 196 * 1.68 = 329.28
Crit - 104 * 1.2 = 124.8
Haste - 84 * 1.04 = 87.36
Int - 109 * .64 = 69.76
Spirit - 0
Total - 611.2
611.2 - 543.76 = 67.44 extra dps from a single item. Small choices like this are key to being a well geared boomkin.

Once again, sorry Kath.
So I got
Kilt of Untreated Wounds
tonight. Since those are the ones you mention Curly I suppose you approve? :D
Also, we never got a definite answer on my gloves. Since I'm wearing the T9 gloves right now the
Handguards of Winter's Respite
are a direct upgrade. Since my next purchase will be my T10 helm, should I wear those at all in my boomkin set, or keep my set bonus and only wear the new gloves on my resto set?
I'm also going to be stubborn and keep my staff. My summoned cadaver makes me happy. I always kill the bosses I summon him on.
