Rolling need on cloth at low levels

would anyone have a right to be upset if i rolled need in low level dungeons (old world) on cloth items that had spell power/int? I'm leveling as elemental but also will be healing randoms the entire way, i'm not sure i'll find too much int/sp on leather items? I've only ran a few and just greed'd all of them (and never one since there was always at least one clothie dps with me.
basically, would i look like an ass if i rolled need on cloth? i know i wouldn't care if someone else did, but i don't think i'm an average wow player

This is often debated but the accepted "proper" aproach is to only roll need on your own armor type, unless no-one of the lower armor types wants it. You'll sometimes miss out on an upgrade, but for my druid healer I found that it wasn't very hard to eventually get drop for each slots.
Being one of few classes that has a use for caster leather does help a lot, although especially spellpower can be hard to come by in old world dungeons.

Mail and leather gear can be quite rare. I say you talk to your clothies first.

I say, if it is an upgrade with the stats you need then need. Old world does not offer very many leather items for casters so cloth almost becomes your only choice, no reason for you to be any less entitled to it than any other toon in the run that can use it.

An upgrade is an upgrade. As long as the stats are right for you then you're entitled to use. Personally I wouldn't roll for it over a cloth wearer, but if everyone else has greeded then sure, go for it.

With the recent changes to the loot system, I don't believe you're allowed to roll on Cloth since it's not your primary armor class. Not "Need" rolls, anyhow.
Which, really, sucks. :(
No, I have rolled "Need" on cloth items with Int, MP/5 and other stats in a few different situations. My Resto-Shammy is level 32 now. And
the game has allowed this
, in LFG randoms.
I haven't had anyone bring up a beef about my rolling need on cloth items. But if I did, my rebuttal would be thusly:
.
1. I am a caster. (Healer, presently... planning to dual-spec Elemental in awhile)
2. Leather caster stuff is RARE until much, much later.
3. I can't help that Blizzard has not supplied an equal selection of gear that is stamped "Leather" or "Mail" at the lower levels. I must, therefore, work within the system provided.
4. If gear -- no matter what it's made out of -- helps me to be a better healer, then I have a justified right to seek it.
.
In fact, a wrist item dropped in Gnomeregan with MP/5 on it. Three people rolled need on it: myself, a Mage, and the idiot Paladin who was tanking for us. There was also a Priest present. No complaints were made about myself. But everyone roundly agreed to kick the Paladin after he got the item.
Note, I'm not relying
only
upon the mercurial RNG to gear me. I've been able to get a good Leatherworker in my guild to make me some items, to take care of me for awhile.
