The fact is that a lot of our damage is normal melee, however a large chunk is spell damage thanks to Lightning Bolt, Earth Shock, etc. Therefore, ArP only contributes to about half out damage, where everything else that improves melee (haste, crit, AP, etc.) improves casting as well (whether directly or through talents). Thats why ArP is alright, but relativly low on our totem pole of stats to seek out. That same trinket slot would be better used by the Herkuml War Token, and a Whispering Fanged Skull, or a Death's Choice.

ArP is not all of our melee damage, LL is fire damage so goes though armour anyway. As long as I can coerce my guild hunters to pass haste in favour of ArP I don't mind.

This is in view of the fact that majority of the damage done by enhancement shamans, are white, melee damage, much like that of most melee dps classes...
No it's not, it's closer to 50%. When ranking all of the melee stats, AP, +hit, haste, crit, and ArP (I'm not counting expertise because after the soft cap it does nothing for dps), ArP is at the bottom. Every one of the other stats will always be better than ArP. It's not a terrible stat, but given the choice you shouldn't ever stack it.

Haste > AP

That's not true, it depends on your gear, and even then it can go either way. I sim'd myself in rawr and replacing all of my gems with +20 haste was a
dps loss
. The best config was 10 +20 haste, 1 hybrid haste/AP gem, and 5 AP gems. Even then, regemming only gave me 33 more dps with full raid buffs, which is only a
0.4% increase.
