clcret is the add on. I tried it, and honestly, I just couldn't do it. I really think that ret dps is about as simple as it gets (maybe an arcane mage, but it's hilarious how many screw it up). It's just wack-a-mole, isn't it?

Download it and try it. I use to think I was on top of my game and now after clcret I don't think I could go back.
It really makes clash resolution a no brainer and it has the option to monitor trinkets, avenging wrath, art of war, divine plea, sov stacks, and just about anything you'd want to see. You can pretty much wipe half of your bars off your screen.

Of course it's easy even without the addon. I don't even trust myself with "easy". CLCRet just idiot-proofs my play just a tiny bit more.

If I didnt like addons so much I'd just put each spell on my bars in the priority system.
1 = Judgement
2 = DS (if you have t102p)
3 = CS
4 = Cons
5 = Exo
That way you just spam whatever is coming off cooldown from left to right priority. You can even be a clicker and win.

You can absolutely have no problems playing without it. It just makes it easier.
CS is coming off cooldown 0.2s ahead of J. You have to watch either the cooldown swirls and compare their speed, or notice what OmniCC provided number changes first. Worst case scenario, you assume they are the same, spam J button, delay the rotation 0.2s. Best case, you work out what's first, but by applying more-than-zero mental effort, straining your eyes a bit more too. CLCret just slaps the right choice in the middle of the screen, with big, friendly letters, and offloads some of your mental processing to that box below the table.
Sure, it's tiny difference in the end, usually lost to vices of RNG. And that effort I'm talking about is really small. But I'll take whatever helps me keep on the top of my game after three-four hours of wiping on progression content. Besides, I'd rather think about what we can change in our strategy than what button should I press next.
PS Properly set up, the ICD and buff tracking module has the potential to increase your output by twenty *!@#tons.

I also find it a lot easier with clcret to do actually useful things, like throw hand spells or LoH around. I have things set up the way Quest does and I just use that on easy fights, but it's nice to remove as much thinking and attention as possible from your actual DPSing as a ret paladin, since we're probably the DPS class with the most active utility.
When I say active I mean 'we don't just drop totems at the beginning and then faceroll.' I don't deny totems are useful, but they don't require any thought during the actual fight, unlike ret utility.

Judgement before CS?
When did the priority list change?

As for priority, quoted from EJ:
If you have 2pc T9 equipped your best clash resolution is: Judgement > HoW > CS > DS > Consecrate > Exorcism > Holy Wrath.
If you have 2pc T9 AND 2pc T10 equipped, your best resolution is: Judgement > DS > HoW > CS > Consecrate > Exorcism > Holy Wrath
If you have 4pc T10 equipped, your best clash resolution is: Judgement > DS > CS > HoW > Consecrate > Exorcism > Holy Wrath

.
Clcret, or any other addon that shows rotation, is helpful because you can keep and eye on the fight mechanics instead of paying attention to your action bars. Can't hurt, and only helps.
