Hello druids!
I'm levelling my druid through Outlands right now, and am having an absolute blast with it. I'm not new to the game, but relatively new to druiding. I've been levelling with a fairly pure
cat
dps spec with a partner, but have lately been using bear more and more for aoe pulls and am starting to tank an instance here and there.
My question is: Is there an established spec that handles both dps and tanking talents
purely for levelling
? I know that in raiding, getting OoC is a good idea, and there are only so many points to distribute.
Yes, I know that the dps spec can be reasonably used to tank, but it seems like I'm really missing talents like
Natural Reaction
and
Protector
, as rage and health seems to be problematic.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Edit: My
druid
.

There are talents that turn against each other very much when trying make a hybrid DPS/tanking build. The main talents are NR and PotP, which are
necessary
for tanking but
useless
for DPSing. The main DPS ones are KotJ and SA, which again are
necessary
for DPS but
useless
for tanking. There are also other ones, like PI, which are very nice to have but not necessary, yet do absolutely nothing for tanking.
When a tree has such bold dividing lines between DPS and tanking, hybrids are very inefficient. You may be 80% of a DPS and 80% of a tank, but you can only do one of those at a time, meaning that you are seriously gimping yourself by trying to hybrid. What I did while leveling was have a standard feral tanking tree (which is excellent for AoE leveling) and a feral DPS tree with dual spec.
I notice that your feral spec is standard tanking, but your glyphs are full-on cat leveling. Make up your mind, damn it :)
Hybrid feral DPS/tanking trees are unrealistic and ineffective. The standard feral tanking spec works perfectly for AoE leveling, so the real choice for you is between tanking/AoE leveling and DPS/single target leveling. Unless you're willing to drop your resto spec, in which case you can have one for tanking/AoE leveling and one for DPS/single target leveling.
As to my spec/glyphs, Armory refreshed after I'd respecced, but before I glyphed. :P Right now I have Mangle and Maul. Going to do basically exactly what you suggested and go standard bear for now. I rather like the resto tree (pardon the pun) but I don't know how much I"ll be using it before Northrend, so I may well end up going bear/kitty until mid-70's, then go bear/tree.
My end goal was initially to make him my healer, but then after doing a couple of elite/group quests in bear, I kind of fell in love. Whole different style of tanking than my paladin tank, and I'm enjoying it immensely.
Thanks for the advice. I agree, hybridizing in the same tree just doesn't seem to work well.
