ICC feral, mace, polearms, staffs ... what? maces?

Yes maces.
Evidently in some spreadsheeting I have been doing recently, I have come across a common conundrum.
First lets assume Im farming ICC 25man up to Lich King, and I have have near BiS gear, which happens to include Death Bringers Will and Banner of Victory ((missing out heroic DBW purposely)) Now lets assume that I am hit, exp, and crit capped (72-76% havent found conclusive evidence to suggest which) which I already am close to with barely half my gear switched over to ICC. And now most importantly, I am hard ArP capped with little to no room to lose my weapon which has 100+ ArP on it.
So you have that image, now I havent got a full epic list from ICC yet so its hard to tell what weapons will drop at the end of it all, but I see a problem. Assuming all of the above, getting an upgraded staff or polearm is slowly becoming wasteful rather than gainful. Every point of agility and or crit rating found on these weapons will be insignificant and battered by diminishing returns.
So on topic, the new in weapon for high end ferals in ICC will be ... maces, or at least with the amount of research Ive done, this will be the case.
Hypothetical example below:
Cryptmaker
378 base AP from Strength being multiplied by all bonuses such as kings and SoF and IMotW
vs
Distant Land
146 base AP from Agility including some *wasted* crit and haste rating
Now admittedly these two weapons are different as such one has haste and one has hit rating, but if you take my hypothetical theory at the top and you want to think about which weapon you are taking from these two, it throws in a whole host of probabilities.
Me personally, once I have close to full ICC gear, currently running around with Lupine Staff heroic, I might very well be rolling for maces in the near future, purely because they offer a bigger DPS increase over the standard polearm or staff. Fury warriors, arms warriors and DKs beware, "These are the facts of the case, and they are undisputed" quote that film!

Now that you mention it... that hammer might be bloody sexy for tanking. :D

Eh? How did you come to those numbers?
3. Facts, Stats and Numbers
Assuming all important feral talents and cat form . Numbers in brackets include Blessing of Kings.
Strength
1 Str = 2.37864 AP (2.616504 AP)
Agility
1 Agi = 1.18932 AP (1.308252 AP)
1 Agi = 0.0129744% Crit (0.01427184%)
Compliments of ElitistJerks "Cat DPS Guide for Dummies" (tm)
Edit: disregard, noticed that I multiplied out the strength wrong, figures above are correct as Nnoutaja.
However, if you factor kings and buffs, the raw numbers you are dealing with start to scale much better for Strength than Agility.

LookOut
Loads of polearms and staves in the loot tables already, I wouldn't count on it. Doesn't mean it can't happen though.

Long story short, once you begin hovering around the crit cap, the Cryptmaker becomes a very powerful weapon in a DPS set. Especially going for hard cap ArP and it also offers a nice amount of hit rating (quite scarce on high level armor penetration oriented gear).
Besides that, the Cryptmaker looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

I picked up Cryptmaker this week. Not the best choice of 264 weapons for my current stats, but the only one I'll be able to nab for the forseeable future.
Regarding looks, it feels absolutely TINY in my big Tauren hands. After having half the Hellion Glaive towering over me these past few months, Cryptmaker is a veritable toothpick. That said, the model is beautiful when you view it in detail.

This
is probably something to keep in mind when thinking about strength weapons.
As they say, for current progression go for it, but I'd be surprised if Cats (and maybe even Bears) get anything out of strength once they switch to the Cataclysm stats.

Check out
Hersir's Greatspear
from Heroic 10man Blood Princes. It'll be better than the 25 man mace at least until you get to Heroic 25 man.

Well Ive only done the 10man versions and I missed our first kill of BQL last week in 25 so meh, "you said it first, but I know how it feels" cliche of the day.
