ATM my Shaman runs with nearly pure haste gemming because Chain Heal spam absolutely needs to be hasted to be viable in top-end raiding, more so than any other spell resto shamans have. But when I inspect other Shamans around cities I see quite a few who focus on SP so could this be for a tank healing build? Although there are big advantages to haste even for the tank healing Shaman.

I'm thinking that some people are gemming SP so that, while chain heal may take longer to cast, it will heal harder and therefore, take fewer casts in order to top everyone off. This way, people who have troubles with mana (as a number of people do) will not see themselves going oom as often as they would be without the extra spell power

tomgc you're probably right, they're most likely tank healers.
LHW is quick enough with the natural haste you pick up on gear, and HW is hastened by Tidal Waves. So stacking SP makes more sense for the larger health pool of a tank.
Edit: Crit wouldn't be a bad stat either, if you're tank healing.

Agreed, haste for raid healing and int for dedicated tank healing. But haste is the best multi purpose gemming, you will most probably be just fine when tank healing in haste gems and you don't gimp your raid healing performance.
