Kill shot clipping off?

Sometimes if the dps in the group is high enough, its hard to actually get Kill Shot to land. I can fire it off, but due to the time it takes to travel to the mob sometimes it doesn't actually land. So I'm left with a KS CD and no damage done.
Is there anyway to remedy this? Do you generally only KS on things that ensure it makes it to it's mark? What's the general guideline for KS getting clipped and not landing? Should I be standing closer or something?

True in regards to meters, it's not that important. But I'm talking about multiple mobs within KS range and wasting it on a dead mob. If I could have used it for the next mob instead of wasting a CD on a dead mob, that would be better.

As stated mobs go down fairly quickly, and as long as its dead it shouldnt matter if you get the shot off or not.
I think this is a pvp shot, in terms of effectiveness. Yes the burst in Pve is nice, but in pvp its better lol. But thats just my opinion.

Constantly updating the server with your XYZ coordinates may allow you to "cut in line" with your Kill shot as damage from various sources tick down the mob's health to death.

I rarely use KS on trash in heroics. Doesn't seem much point, as, as you say, the mob tends to drop dead anyway.
If taking down the trash takes longer than usual, I will use KS (e.g. another dps has died, or is skinng, mining etc).
I also use KS if the tank has died. Then it's all hands to the pumps to kill the mob(s) as quickly as possible.
