Midnight Sun: Did I make a mistake rolling on this?

Last night in an Icecrown 10,
Midnight Sun
dropped. Now I'm currently using
Illumination
, and I'm not sure that this was an actual upgrade for me. I don't have a good off-hand at the moment, but let's assume that I pick up a
Shriveled Heart
within the next week or so (it's not much for me to run HoR once a day).
According to my calculations, Midnight Sun and Shriveled Heart combine to give the following stats:
Stamina: 113
Intellect: 93
Critical Strike: 51
Haste: 50
Spell Power: 735
MP5: 28
Illumination is already giving me these stats:
+72 Stamina
+92 Intellect
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 113
Equip: Improves haste rating by 108
Equip: Increases spell power by 550.
I'm a Disc Priest. Gaining 1 Int and a bunch of stam at the cost of crit strike and haste seems counter-productive, even if I am getting almost 200 Spellpower in the bargain. Let's not forget the two sockets I'm losing as well. Should I see about trading this to someone from the raid ASAP?
EDIT: Alternatively, should I maybe consider this the building block of a Shadow set?

+200 SP and you don't consider it an upgrade? That's pretty much an upgrade for any caster and especially for disc seeing as it buffs our shields.

Yes, but depending on the loss of crit chance and haste, it may be a detriment to one's ability to heal, depending on the rest of their gear. Raw spellpower does not necessarily a good healer make.

Use the Wowhead tool for comparison.
Look here
. I've gemmed your staff with Runed, and added an extra 19sp gem to account for the higher enchant you get on a staff.
The significant differences:
MH/OH => 120sp
Staff => 62 crit, 12 haste
Pretty easy choice IMO.

But what about the loss of Crit and Haste? We're talking about 62 Crit and 58 Haste.
...wait, that sounds kind of silly when I say it like that.
But seriously, if you factor in the gems, that's another 46 SP on the staff. At that point we're just looking at +139 SP from using the dagger. Now personally, I had the staff gemmed with one Int and one SP, so it was only 23 SP, so it's +162. I think you're overestimating the amount of SP you'd get from this.

Assuming you were using SP gems in the staff and enchanting them both with spellpower enchants you gain:
1 Int
41 Sta
28 MP5
121 Spell Powe
Lose:
62 Crit (1.35%)
12 Haste (0.37%)
I think it's an okay switch. I switched to the same weapons. Then got the offhand from ToC 25 to pair it with. Made up for the crit loss almost (though you do lose some haste by doing that since the heart has haste and
Mystifying Charm
does not). But it's still a big boost to SP
Edit: I was the third to post when I started comparing items. Now I'm like sixth :(

How did you get three gems on the staff, though?
edit: Also, I'm an idiot who didn't count the haste on the dagger/offhand correctly. Yeah, I see it now. Thanks everyone. :)

I mentioned that I put in the third gem because I was too lazy to add the 63sp enchant to the MH and the 81sp enchant to the staff. So instead I just added a 19sp gem to the staff to account for the difference. The math is close enough :)

Come on Paolo, you were a whole 1 SP off :P.
Anyways I liked using the Midnight Sun/Mystifying Charm combo(the heart is still a good option until you manage to get the Charm to drop). Though the Midnight sun got replaced this week :)

Look at this
comparison
. I assumed you were using
Runed Cardinal Ruby
in both slots. I used the Disc Priest weights to for the comparison as well.
As you can see, the
Midnight Sun
with
Shriveled Heart
is a better pairing than using
Illumination
.

Never did end up getting a shriveled heart, despite numerous runs on HoR. Last night in ICC 10 though, I got
this
, which I think is actually a better deal.

How do you equate hit for haste? I don't understand? Granted, there is more SP on the hit Off-Hand, but even still, I would say that depending on your current haste, it may or may not be a better deal. How much haste are you running with currently?

My Armory
.
Very little haste (218). It's a better deal because I'm tired of waiting in HoR queues to wind up with a group where half of them drop as soon as they realize they're in HHOR, and the other half have no idea what they're doing.
Also, I never said I rolled for the baton in ICC10. They gave it to me, because the damn thing drops so much that everyone else who could use it already had one. This happens more often than I'd like (I got Muradin's Spyglass last night too, but luckily I *do* have actual healing trinkets), because my raiding schedule has been iffy for the past couple of months so I keep getting far enough behind that hand me downs like this are upgrades, even in my healing set. I've got 160 hit rating just staring at me, doing nothing.
Hopefully, Saurfang will drop the staff for me and this will become a moot point. It's kind of funny though: My mage has a Shriveled Heart (which, even as DPS, I kind of prefer, due to the haste and the fact that the arc mage hit cap is so low), and my Priest as an off-hand with hit rating on it.
Oddly enough, the comments for the baton suggest that there are healers who like it as an off-hand...personally, I'm taking it right now as an SP upgrade, but my ideal is still going to be a staff.
