I have never quested in Stonetalon as Horde or Alliance. For Alliance it's just too far out of the way. For Horde, I always level in Hillsbrad and a few quests in Ashenvale. Once you hit 24-25 go to Thousand Needles. Freewind Post has numerous quests. Also, with the new LFD, picking up the instance quests at Zoram'gar Outpost on the coast of Ashenvale and doing BFD will get you a decent level or two.
Considering that most of the time your 'random' instance will be BFD, you can just queue random.

ya,i havent really did much random lfg.i guess its probably cuz i dont really play my alt that much anyway but i dont know.i tried doing stormwind stockades once cuz i was bored but i guess the exit was like right behind where it ports you in and i accidently went in it when i got ported and it ported me back to like the barrens
so i just left group cuz i figured i couldnt get back there anyway.havent really had any queues come up ever since ive tried queuing for it since though.but that could be because i usually play my alt really late at night and no one is running itHaving done numerous LFG/LFD groups, I seem to tell people this a lot. If you accidentally leave through the portal, right click the eye by your minimap. It gives you an option to "teleport back to dungeon". If you need to repair or go get something, you can always right click eye by minimap and click "teleport out of dungeon".
Queues range from around 2 minutes to 40 minutes (most around 10-15) on a med/high pop server. Nights do tend to be longer.

hmm.how long is "longer".because besides that one time i havent really gotten a group when ive queued up for stormwind stockades.maybe im just not waiting long enough
oh and i usually que up like really late at night
Med/High population server (I don't know too much about overall battlegroup population) takes around 30 minutes for me between 3-6 a.m. Around 6:30 or 7 am until 10 am, it sometimes take from 45 min to 1.5 hrs.
Going random is going to be faster. If you think about it, if two people choose specific instances, but they arent the same instance, two groups need to form in order to satisfy both individuals. However, if only one individual is choosing 'specific', then it takes less groups to satisfy those individuals. So: If you are queued behind another individual choosing 'specific', you will have a longer wait than if you just go 'random'. So I say don't worry too much about getting a specific instance, and go with the random queue.
This is my experience from Nightfall and Reckoning battlegroups.
