It's sad really, people assume that you're a bad player, and not just someone who's unfamiliar with the fights. This occurs usually with DKs, hunters, and sometimes pallies. They figure that you're just a bad player and not something more reasonable, like you just don't know the mechanics.

Odd. I've been leveling from 60 to 65 so far as a DK tank and I've only seen one example of 'deathnooblol' behavior. And I joined right in with that since it was the fail DPS who queued with ress sickness. No one objected to the fact that a DK was also tanking the instance. Everyone else is just so ridiculously grateful to get a tank who actually sticks around for the whole instance.

While tanking with my DK I've noticed that people tend to have a rather short fuse when it comes to mistakes on my part. I've had people snap at me because I "forgot" to put Frost Presence on, even though I switched my spec two seconds earlier and was eating to get back to full health before pushing the button.
On the other hand people also tend to praise me when I do well. Much more so than when I'm tanking with my warrior. People obviously have very low expectations when it comes to DKs and tend to react to the extreme, good or bad. I refrain from this state of mind myself though, as I don't want to label people based on the class they play.
The funny thing is that if there's not a DK tanking the fault automatically goes to the healer:P Most players must have some kind of priority order when it comes to blame, and it goes something like this: DK-healer-tank-dps. At least that's my experience.
(my main is a healer and i rarely have to look away from healbot).
.....................
Tanking is a lot more intense than healing or dps.
Just as a tip; don't use healbot, grid, dbm, or any other addon which simplifies the task unless you're having problems. I see many players complaining about a specific task being too easy, when at the same time they're using addons which makes it easier. Not that I mind people using such addons if they need to lower the difficulty. A lot of people just doesn't realize these addons are optional.

Btw, I don't have much problems with trigger-happy dps. All thanks to my ex which is my personal healer in every dungeon so that I can tell her to stop healing those who just wont learn/listen. A few deaths later and they know not to stand in fire or to hit the correct target:P
It's one of the perks of being the tank; you can make people learn their lessons the hard way.

What I've noticed is the social stigma against DKs is very harsh. Every mistake I do is apparently a problem with a DK class. For example,
I did not know the mechanics of the watchers fight
in Azjol Nerub heroic (my main is a healer and i rarely have to look away from healbot). The skirmishers started attacking the shaman healer. I never had a problem in normal AN, but DPS was only concentrating on the watcher. Skirmisher pounds away on the healer, I see it and see I have top threat. Shaman drops group, saying "fail dk, l2play".
You failed as a tank right there.
