And I find it no less than hipocritical that everyone here is ready to reject my belief that these beliefs should cause outrage, on the theory that all beliefs should be accepted as beliefs.
Welcome to the world of relativists.
"Nothings absolutely true, and that's a fact!"
/facepalm
All reductionisms rely upon what they reject.

You'd make an awesome math test grader.
While thank you but than I would be payed to impose my opinion. Which by the way you would probably find not quite easily acceptable.
No, you're payed to teach fact. If you started teaching 0 + 0 = 6324, you'd get kicked out...because it's WRONG!

I'm not saying that you need to eat the crap people feed you. I'm saying it's a better method to try and sway someone's opinion through constructive means. Otherwise you end up in an endless argument with no winner foreseeable.
I am angry. I am repulsed. I am not trying to debate him. I loathe his view. I believe it has no place anywhere.
It isn't as if he is proposing that the world is round. It isn't as if I am rejecting a revolutionary or insightful, or quirky, point of view.
Global Warming Conspiracy > Dead Babies
It's just sick. It makes me mad. That's all there is to it. There is no debate.

Well, I can see where you're coming from, and I'm not trying to dismiss what you're saying. And maybe I'm trying to impose my own opinions here, but I just don't feel that ridiculing an idea is really ever necessary or constructive.

I may agree with you but those in question certainly do not, and belive it or not, they
are
humans to.
Let's take a less significant example I belive that cosmetic plastic surgery is not ok, and you think it is. Should you be disposed of because of it?
You can take an ever more banal example; I think seating in front of computer for the whole day is bad for you, you think it's perfectly fine. Most are on your side...am I to be ridiculed, called crazy?
There are thousands of opinions where we can not agree. And i bet you there are those I find ridiculous and there are those you find ridiculous. And that's just us 2.
You seem to lack the ability to differentiate between particulars and universals.

Not at all. These are perfectly fine views. Most views are perfectly fine. Most opinions are not deserving of ridicule. What's your favorite music? ice cream? color? What do you think of celery? I couldn't care less. I certainly am not going to react angrily, and wouldn't approve of anyone who did.
But your missing the point. My point is that there are some views that
should
be met with harsh criticism, anger, and even ridicule. They should be rejected outright. They never should have entered human thinking... ever.
Not only is it my right to get angered by some people's views, it is also natural, and acceptible. Definately more acceptible than the views that angered me in the first place.
Anger, in and of itself, is not a bad thing.

It is not my goal to have a constructive conversation with someone who values a human life less than conspiracy theory. It is my goal to not throw up after realizing they are in the same biological pool as me.

But, isn't it so that it's merely your opinion that Global Warming is a conspiracy theory?
I'm not saying it isn't, I'm not saying it is. But would you want to be ridiculed for thinking that way?

Yes I would get kicked. But if I thought 0+0=0 and all other math census is correct, and you came as a brilliant young mathematician and found a hole in the teaching I (meaning usual teacher-it's just an example) would just be dismissed. I would be ridiculed. And believe me there would be those that would low my opinion and find it just plain wrong.
That 0 + 0 = 0 is implicit once you understand what zero and addition mean.
It's a fact!
Somethings are just facts, including the fact that babies are more important than ozone.

If you could go back in time, would you try and stop Nazi Germany from making to much carbon emissions, or from murdering millions of Jews?

That doesn't really answer my question.

I've just been reading the last few pages and i'm shocked by this. The complete intellectual pacifism, for use of a better term, is disturbing.
Questioning things, whether they are situations, actions or beliefs is the only way we as people learn. Just accepting what occurs around you completely stunts your ability to learn.
Screw intolerance. If I met someone with that attitude who told me: "Sorry sir, these are my beliefs. You're just going to have to accept them." would be out of any class I was teaching so fast their head would spin. Whether or not they left through the door or window would depend on the mood i'm in.
(I find it especially worrying that this was raised in a debate about free speech who's very nature revolves around the right to question other peoples beliefs)
I never said it was wrong to question someone's beliefs. I said that it's better to use constructive means to sway someone's beliefs than ridicule.

But, isn't it so that it's merely your opinion that Global Warming is a conspiracy theory?Yes. It is simply my opinion that Global Warming is a conspiracy. I accept the belief that it might be possible. That is not what I am questioning.
If someone were rushing a child to the hospital because they child had stopped breathing, but they stopped along the way to have a new fuel injection system installed on thier car to help with thier carbon emissions, I would find it abhorrant. It isn't whether or not global warming is or is not real. It is the ease at which the person shrugged off the issue of abortion. It was sickening to me.

I understand that, but was ridicule really the best possible route to take in the situation? It didn't prove your point, it didn't make him change his mind. So, what did it accomplish?
